Question Seafoam Brake booster line

i'm going to seafoam my car this coming weekend and i was told i need to find the brake booster line, my cousin is helping out, we already bought the can of seafoam and he previously did it on his mini cooper JCW. Does anyone have a picture or a diagram or anything to help.

Thanks

+1

There are before/after pictures people have taken using a borescope which show very little, if any, reduction in the amount of carbon on the valves after using Seafoam. Seafoam is simply a mixture of pale oil (approx 60%), a petroleum solvent called naphtha (around 25%) and isopropyl alcohol (approx 15%). The truth is, it will do very little to clean off the baked-on carbon on the valves. The white smoke people attribute to carbon being burned off is nothing more than the oil within Seafoam itself being burned.

^^ While I agree about the Seafoam.. do you guys know if there is anything we CAN do? Techron claims it cleans intake valves on DI cars.. but I find this questionable

There's a great DIY in the... well.. DIY forum haha.

It's a bit of a pain but it's the best way. If your car is performing a little sluggish you can try and bring it in to the dealership. They do a walnut shell blasting of them that cleans em. Convince them it's warranty work.

You're car is an 08 so you should be fine though... I mean intake valve cleaning is always a good idea but Seafoam is more of an older car type of treatment.

Final word: dealership on warranty or DIY.

just hit 40k miles and i got it as CPO and doesnt seem like the person before me took good care of it. (probably knew they werent buying it out so didnt care) bmw actually covered up scratches and what not that looking at a car before u buy it you cant see then after a few months of driving and washing become noticable.

I'm doing a full wash, clay, wax, seal and bug and tar stuff and cleaning interior. basically a full detail so i figured since its cheap, doesnt take long and doesnt hurt why not do it.

Try calling your local dealer. Prices vary significantly.

OP: Don't waste your time. Seafoam is snake oil. Also your car is a regular port injection N52. The injectors spray fuel on the valves, and they stay squeaky clean. BMW engines typically run very clean. It's the N54 direct injection motors that need valve cleaning.

One more thing: Do not use the brake booster line! If you don't know what you're doing, don't. You can destroy your vacuum pump. The intake on these cars does not generate a lot of vacuum due to the Valvetronic actually throttling the engine, not the throttle body. There is a vacuum pump to generate vacuum to run the brake booster.

^ yep, the brake vacuum is supplied by a pump, not intake manifold vacuum due to valvetronic.

Best bet is to forget the seafoam that was originally deleloped for outboard engines about a thousand years ago. That being said if you have a mosquito problem it might be a good plan.

Has anyone tried spraying a carb-cleaner into the CP nipple? I guess it would have a minimal effect on the carbon build-up but it could clean the whole intake a bit?
