Hey,
Definately looking forward to see how you are going to remove it. I will try to see if I can find anything on my side...might even try to take it out as well...but it sure looks complicated

Hi Guys,

I did recently swap the battery in my E93.
The guide I used was one of the videos on Youtube, i.e.

The electric part for batter disconnecting should be the same.

There's one difference between E93 and the rest of E9x... with E93 we've far less space around the batter and after unscrewing and disconnecting everything, when pulling out the battery, you'll have to do a bit of gymnastics.
Don't be surprised that when taking out the battery it will have to be done under an angle and be careful about the frame supporting the boom.

Also, I'd suggest, to remember the angles how you'll take out the battery as putting a new one inside is even a bit more tricky. It's just not that easy to find the right set of "moves" and angles to get it just about it's place.

The battery I've had in mine was the biggest AGM and this beast is pretty heavy, so taking into account that one has to manoeuvre in not that comfortable position makes it even more heavy especially if you're as tall as I am.

At the end of the day, it's easy procedure, just remember the order and don't forget to program the car that you've replaced the battery. btw. if you're on AGM already you've to replace it with AGM.

If you'd be buying in Europe, I can give you good source in Germany.

Regards,
D.

So I received my BMW 3 SERIES service manual today

did a step by step on how to replace my battery
I loosen fastener (black cable ) (A) and disconnect negative cable
I removed positive cable (red) (B) yellow circles on picture

if you need more space to work with you can take of rear power distribution panel (red thing on top of battery) you can push down on color plugs they come right out but you still need to loosen them metal plates on the side using a flat head screwdriver just watch the video that's posted on here it will show you how to unclamp the sides to loosen up free then carefully pull out.

however I don't recommend this unless you have the Bavarian technic diagnostic tool for bmw ($279)

when I replaced my battery it triggered a lot of sensors all at once I turned off the car towed it to my indy shop (d young's European shop) I

I returned my auto zone battery they installed an interstate agm battery coded the battery fixed all the sensors for 275 I could live with that
car runs great

by no means I consider my self a pro !!! but I do like to learn and felt like sharing my experience

Huh? Why did you tow? Were you not able to follow the instructions in the manual, or did something go wrong?

codes came up when I replaced the battery so I returned the battery towed the vehicle to Deyoung European motors they installed an AMG interstate battery that matched my old bmw battery crank numbers and all that stuff they coded the battery and rested all the codes that popped up in my vehicle which where like 7 codes

Deyoung felt more comfortable working with there battery

so for the battery and the install
coding of battery
and resting the codes that popped up
they charged me 270 I could live with that

LOL! that sucks. I had all the panels disassembled and was about to tackle the replacement myself; however, after contemplating, I just took it to an independent shop to do everything. It just wasn't worth the hassle.

Are you sure that the BavarianTechnic tool will reset the battery coding on M3s? Their website doesn't say that it will.

hey there, about to do this job -- is it Ok to put a battery charger on the charging connections under the front engine hood to preserve settings while I change the battery in the trunk?

I see some people mention this and I definitely do not want to lose any settings and presets in idrive.

thanks.

NO. You still run the risk of frying components. It's better to lose some settings in iDrive v/s paying the price if you were to fry something in the process. The FRM is the first thing that comes to mind. You can read about how many people have fried their FRM after only just disconnecting their battery.
