GOOD alloy refurb companies in london
Caught one of my alloys today in a width restriction. 18" M sport alloy for a 2006, so MV2s I think?
Does anyone know a good place to get the wheel done and do you need to get all 4 done or can just 1 be done? Its standard colour etc etc etc obviously. Theres a slight mark on 2 of the spokes, and the rest is confined to the lip. Grrrrr

There are effectively two types of wheel refurb - first is the mobile while-u-wait service and the like which you find at main dealers, where a wheel is flatted back, sanded, painted and spot lacquered. Normal cost anything from £45 to £80 per wheel. The good thing about this service is that it can be done within about two hours or so, and visually looks pretty good if the company you're using are competent. The downfall of this method though is that over time you may find the lacquer will start to peel off, or that painted area might start to discolour. The reason for this is because the paint and lacquer is effectively just a local topup.
The other method, and the best method of all, is where a refurb shop takes your wheel, acid strips all the paint and lacquer back down to base metal, fills the offending kerb rash, turns the wheel on a lathe for a perfect finish, repaints or powder coats, then relacquers the entire wheel for a perfect and uniform finish. The finish will be better than the first method, the wheel will be perfectly true, any small buckles can be machined out, and you even have the choice of choosing what finish you want (either OEM to match the other wheels, or any other finish or colour you want) Cost of this isn't that bad either - around £80 for a 19" wheel, a little less for smaller. The downside is that it takes a while - normally a four day turnaround. The two best companies for this sort of refurb work are either Pristine Alloys Wheels in Milton Keynes, or Lepsons in Gillingham, Kent. I've used both, and I highly recommend either of them.

Incidentally, there's a Lepsons workshop/centre in Swindon as well - might be easier bombing down the M4 rather than going through London and going out on the M2...

Lepsons were the only guys able to do the old mk5 VW wheels - dealerrs used to send their wheels to them.
Ive used spit n polish in tonbridge. They have been around for years and did a dtunnig job on a set of very battered alloys i bought 2nd hand. Would def recommend them.

How bad is the curb? got pics? i curbed my wheel and i refurbed it myself, a small kit for these wheels costing about £11.99 and trust me, it was not as hard as i thought. i did myn and now you cannot tell which part i repaired and sprayed! always worth a try if you have some time? It would be best to use an airbrush as it blends it in well - thats how i did mine. If it dont work or is too much hasstle then you can always take it to Lepsons. i have added a few pics to show you the steps taken....
Hope this helps! Good luck!

that sucks, guess it would be best to send to Lepsons or take it to BMW, they charge about £50 but get it spot on as it has to meet certain requirements!

Bought from ebay, type 'BMW Alloy Wheel Scuff or Scrape Repair Kit,1,3,5,X5,X3' in the ebay search. i would advise to use an airbrush though to get a smooth blended finish as paint brush wont give you the perfect result. i was so impressed with the kit that i bought the 'Douche silver' paint from a paint shop (thats the bmw wheel colour) and have started refurbin another set of Hamann wheels i have that where on my brothers car. takin me a while as i do it when im free, but its worth a try...

Waf,
Hours wise, how long did it take you to do a wheel. Did you need to remove it from the hub to spray? Or did you do it while on the car. cheers

took about 2 hours? maybe a little less. i took the wheel off, but you dont have to. then when sprayed put it next to a radiator to dry quicker and settle smooth. did not even need to fine sand after. but again i do advise to airbrush it. If you like to come to my warehouse one day and give it a go, then feel free, just PM me. I already have a tub of the paint anyways and got the laquer etc. Im not a professional, but can help you try!

I'll get one and post it up next week. I'm not talking about the fecked wheel now, talking about the drivers side rear that unfortunately was like this when I bought the car and I missed. Its only small so would be fine for repair.
Very generous offer re the workshop. Might have to take you up on that at some point dude.

no you get a small tub of paint (similar size to the ones you would get in the small car/plane models kits) which is more then enough for the refurb. you can brush it on or airbrush it....brushing it will not give out a very good finish, but if you airbrush then it will blend in very well.
the kit consists of: 1 Bottle High Build Primer, 1 Bottle Deutche Silver, 1 Bottle of Lacquer, 1 set of wet and dry paper inc 80/180 and 600 grade, 1 pair of latex gloves. 3x Applicators
