egr block texas

Any recommendations on where I can get my egr blocked in texas?

Or better yet, is there a list of indy shop list compilation? Might be win win ...

I don't think any shop would be willing to do that for you.
You're best bet would be to install it yourself.

The installation is really straight forward if you're installing the block off plates that go on the EGR cooler's inlet and outlet. This thread has very good instructions on how to perform this:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...R+block&page=2

I installed mine this past Saturday in about an hour~hour and a half. And that's mostly because I was taking my time.

If you block, be prepared to clear code after start or have your computer updated to "not care". I don't know the codes that come up as i never ran blocked with standard coding in DDE. I'm only repeating what others have said about clearing codes.

You're in Texas so be advised that there is no OBD check for state inspection on diesel cars and trucks. Time will tell if it stays this way though.

Cuda brings up a good point that I forgot to mention. I get the following codes every time I turn the ignition on:

4B82: Exhaust gas recirculation
4862: Air system, EGR

I run the BMWhatt app diagnostics and clear them, but I do also plan on getting my computer flashed in a month or so. The car does run fine with or without clearing the codes, though. It just depends if the SES light bothers you. I live in north Georgia, outside metro Atlanta; so emissions are of no matter to me as they're non-existent

If you can live with the light that is the cheapest route. Otherwise you may as well just go with a full tune to make the light go away. It's not economical to ship out the ECU just to hide those two codes.

+1. Keeping the code is not a big deal, but if you want to clear each time then you will want something convenient to clear the code. Although I have cleared the codes with BMWhat, it takes more time than I wanted to spend going through the process, so I only cleared codes when I would drive with others in the car.

Find a BMS cantool for sale on this site somewhere if you want quick convenient code reset ability. It's the best tool I am aware of in terms of quickly resetting codes

Sorry, I don't know where to point you to that might be in Texas. I went a different route outside our borders. I tried to tell you that my info was from others experiences that i read on this board and Hooper is pointing you in a good direction.

I just went for my inspection last week and they obd checked me, also removed the fuel cap and pressure tested it. So they do obd check. At least in the emissions counties i assume. I live in league city...

Castle, we need to talk. I live in Clear Lake so we are less than 10 miles apart. I believe your inspection place made a mistake. How much did they charge you?

Texas law is safety inspection only on diesels. PM me if you want to go get inspected where i do. I have talked with the lady that does my car about this 4 times now as she has done safety inspect only in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014. Check out this state of texas link.

Here is an excerpt:
>Which vehicles are required to have the emissions test?
Vehicles registered in designated counties. Designated counties include: Brazoria, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Montgomery, Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, Travis, Williamson and El Paso counties.
>Gasoline powered vehicles. Diesel powered vehicles and motorcycles are exempt from emissions testing, but are still required to have the annual safety inspection.
Vehicles 2 through 24 years old OR upon expiration of the two-year initial inspection sticker.

Travis & williamson should not require a smog test if I'm reading this right.

EGR block and EGR restrict is pretty simple. Having wasted too much time on diagnosis, I have made a suite of EGR restriction devices. Plus I have practiced many times installing and removing them.

Is it worth having 100 blanks water jet cut from stainless sheet? Would each of you buy one for $10?

It REALLY helps if you have the exact 3 different allen wrenches and the security Torx bit.

What is a wrenches + bit + 2 plates + instructions kit worth? $50? Less? More?

I haven't performed any of the alphabet soup deletes since I bought my car about 3 weeks ago so I would gladly pay $50 for this kit...small price to pay to prevent CBU. My car runs strong now, I'd like to keep it that way, and I can just clear the EGR fault codes with my phone or tablet (BMWhat) if they give me trouble.

Yup we are close

They charged me 25.50 which is the new state mandated fee, and of course didn't issue a window sticker just a report which I have a copy of. I dunno anything about past testing as this is the first diesel vehicle I've ever owned purchased in April. But yes, he did plug his computer into the obd port, and the report says all subsystems reported as ready. Texas at least on gasoline cars will allow two not ready codes and still pass.

Of course the guy who did the test might be an idiot. I don't really care if he did it right. I just want to pay my state mandated tax, so I can get my registration haha.

I have experience about passing emissions on gasoline cars, I had a mk6 GTI with a an upgraded turbo and an apr downpipe which included a high flow cat. I had to use 02 sensor spacers to trick the ecu into not throwing a code for cat innefficency to pass emissions and the right ecu tune.

This is really weird guys. I live in Tarrant county and did my inspection about a month ago. This is the new way where they inspect, then report to the state and THEN I can renew my registration. Anyways it cost $7 and all they did was check tires, brakes, wipers and lights. No obd stuff or fuel cap stuff.

Joe, It's been this way since before my 335D purchase (9/2011). Only new wrinkle is we only have one sticker and you take inspection report with you to pay for registration and get the one sticker.
