Is it only me that drives my car hard...07 335xi, 115000km and tuned at 52,341 (to be exact). Drag raced at track all last year every weekend except rain days. Just thought I would share my experience. The car is great and all recalls were done before expirey of warranty. original turbos only issue was oil housing gaskets started leaking and thanks to the thread on here I was able to do myself.

09 e92 335i, built 03/09, second owner starting at 94000km, repairs so far:
1. HPFP(2nd by me at 96000km, 1st recall 40k) 2. Injectors (cyl 2 twice, 3-6 at 110,000km) 3. Valve body gasket( slight leak,110,000km) 3. Auto Tranny replaced (at 120,000km) 4. Battery cable recall, cable got fried just before the appt I booked. Everything is still stock Maintaince: 1.8000km oil changes 2. All fluids flushed at 116,000km except diff and coolant I think dont recall 3.changed battery at 121,000km with AGM 4. Brakes at 113,000 both front and rear Future: 1.PCV replacement ( still a newbie doing research) 2.walnut blasting the Intakes( will.be done as soon as I get the cash for it) 3. Diff fluid 4. Still un tuned as I have 3rd party warranty that im afraid to void good news is RMP motors is now Lubrico approved repair facility and they know my car the best since all maintaince was done by Rocco 5. Low coolant light came on topped up so far so good, hoping no water pump or t stat probs even tho they will.eventually need replacing 6.had the abs traction and brake light warning pop up for a bit then dissappear the other daying, hoping was just dirty tpms sensors Sorry for the long post, first time poster, & also itching to tune this beast but need to lessen my driving no more long routes to home.school.and work |

Not entirely sure, had the orange transmission fault light come on (orange gear with ! in the middle) restarted and it was gone, misplaced my code reader so i couldn't check the codes that day. Took the car in for an oil change ( required by warranty company) and they said the gear ratio was off from first to second, went to tranny shop and the said it had to be rebuilt* , gears 1,2, and 5, and some other stuff, didn't get entire details, shop owner wasn't really responsive to my calls or questions-.-, at 123000 so far no problems, but ill admit car never drove the same as it did before, particularly in DS mode.

Tbh, even after the light came on and off car drove pretty normal, when they read the code was when they told me it needed a rebuild, & the shop wouldnt give me an invoice of the work they did, they told me to call my warranty company, never got around to it, but my maximum per claim is $5000 , I'm assuming somewhere in that area.

Had to change the water pump last month as had started to leak slightly (cracked), not bad it got to 190,000 miles. Thought the turbo's needed replaced but we used the guide on here and were able to adjust the wastegates, all fine now. cold starting was also becoming a problem which was down to the HPFP, not bad it made it all the way to 190,000 miles, replaced it with a 2nd hand low mileage one sourced from ebay for £40. All running well, looks like original turbos will go a long way yet. running standard boost but gets driven quite hard even at this mileage! have got a stock pile of low mileage used 335i spares we bought from ebay just in case anyhting fails like a/c, PAS etc - but all seems good for now. |

I don't see why these motors cant last as long as any motor out there with very good maintenance.
Transmission and other expensive components can go with any high mileage engine, not just ours. All the other components like turbos and HPFP are really cheap to buy covered from BMW for quite a while. I don't think the n54 is any more expensive to maintain and keep long term than any other engine honestly. All engines have their quirks, and the N54's quirks have all been addressed and worked out. It comes down to the owner and how proactive and attentive he/she is. |
