Georgia Drive - Tail of the Dragon

So there has been some interest in doing the Tail of the Dragon... I have never done it but it looks like alot of fun!

I am very open to the date- i checked out the news website and saw there is some paving projects going on right now so I am proposing two dates:

Thursday Sept 1
Friday Sept 2
Sat Sept 3

I have been told that weekdays are much better (less cops)

We will leave the date open. Comment below with which date you would prefer and then we will pick a date!

I look forward to it.

I have a first grader so I can only do weekends and you will probably get a bigger and likely better crowd on sat as well. That and it is much cooler when you roll up in there with a big group on the weekend. Police arent that bad if you arent acting like an ass and crossing the double yellow. That seems to be the cardinal rule. I passed an officer at well over 50 and the speed limit is 20 in some places and he payed no attention, and as loud as my car is that is hard to imagine

Saturday is better for me, but if we need to do a weekday, then Friday is my second choice.

I concur, although mine are in 2nd grade. BTW, which school? Mine are at Bascomb.

I do miss driving it ten plus years ago though when there was very little traffic and no cops at all.

I live in Canton, it takes a few hours to get there from where I'm at. My suggestion is to meet off 575 north, somewhere, and everybody will head up to NC. Anybody else has a better route?

I would like to get in on that. I have a 1st and 2nd grader myself though. I worked with a guy who went about twice a year. He is 55 years old and does the Dual's gap ride. He took his buddies 96' M ROADSTER through the dragon. He said it was bananaz!

I'll meet you at Riverstone.

The route up depends on location. Those on the east side of town may take 985 and back road. Those downtown would be better off coming up 575 but could take 400 up.

The dragon is pretty awesome, it is good to make a weekend of it! We used to have "Z dayz" up there once a year around May, and we would have a mini- zdays up there sometimes in Sept/Oct (I used to drive a 350z). Cops never were a problem, they really don't bother you much unless you are crossing the center-line and endangering oncoming traffic. Some good side roads to take as well, plus the dam you can visit is a great place to take pics. We would have huge parties at night at the resort area where everyone stayed (we would have like 400-450 Z's and G's of all years show up).

I would love to make a BMW trip sometime

Ya its 3 hours there 3 hours back at best. You are looking at an all day affair.

Also we may want to look at Sept 9th as the 2nd is labor day weekend and may prove to be somewhat crowded....although the video that I posted was from monday July 4th and it was EMPTY! Guess we'll just have to see.

This is also a nice route so I have heard. Instead of just cruising through Robinsville, it takes you up around Fontana Dam and along the river area. Havent personally done it but have heard from others that it is nice.

ok so i am thinking very early Sat or leaving Friday night and getting a motel up there. I saw there are lots of cabins and what not. I think that driving Sat should work for almost everyone. I will check some of the days and get back to everyone.

So, for the Tail of the Dragon trip, who would like to meet up and have a huge caravan up to Deals Gap?
