I am a diesel Mechanic and back in 94 chevy extended there warranty for their diesel fuel pumps for 10 years 100,000 miles. The fuel pump was placed in the valley of the engine whiich caused a condition called "heat Soak"

You would think that BMW engineers would come up with a good solution and not just extend their warrany.

I read about a lot people have issues with there fuel pumps. I hope I never have a problems with mine.
Mine actually said 10 years or 120,000 miles.

That's the problem with forums. You don't see people post "hey! there's nothing wrong with my car!"

I guess I'll get laughed off this forum, but I think it was an excellent proactive gesture to reassure owners that the company stands behind their cars. It's an expensive job to replace it and it's the only reoccurring problem that affects the driveability of the car. Most of the mods that have been done don't stress the pump much, if at all, so I read they are implying that your warranty is safe.
After driving the car for two years I'm convinced BMW has a winner and it will give me many good years of service.

I did not get mine yet, despite the fact my car has had 2 pumps replaced already in <17,000 miles.

I had a 2002 Acura TLS which had rumored tranny problems. When I got the letter from Acura extending my tranny warranty to 100,000 mile I became concerned that the tranny might quit in the middle of nowhere. Within 6 months I replaced the TLS with a G35.

Now that BMW acknowledges that the HPFP problem is more than anectodal my concern factor just spiked. If y'all don't hear anything from me a few months from now that would mean I'm no longer cruising in a BMW.

Being afraid to drive one of the best cars on earth is rediculous.
Because I have all the symptoms... 5 second starts (mostly when cold), rough idle, occasional limp modes when WOT, etc. I have had my regular fuel pump replaced a long time ago, but never the HPFP yet (which is giving signs of failure). I am just under 9k miles so far.

Got mine letter today........

Just a thought though, my car has been having rough idle for the last week or so, but no other symptoms pointing to a failed HPFP. Should I revert everything back to stock and tell them I'm encountering the problems as they described and have them check and possibly replace my HPFP?

I mean, if they acknowledge that they have some failing HPFPs out there, then regardless of the car's mods or if it's stock, they should be willing to replace the HPFP if it indeed checks out to be a dud?

TIA

Guys

It is not very nice. My car is a July 08 production , with only 3000 miles, and the fuel pump is gone. The is shaking like hell and all the engine lights are on.

It must be very bad for the car to have this issues, since it could compromise other parts of the motor.

It is a shame for BMW.

Best,
Freak

Got the letter -- no problems other than a sensor which caused a momentary rough cold idle; replaced and back to smooth...
