$50,000 msrp for a loaded 2010 328i wtf

I just visited the dealership yesterday looking around to see if they had anything there new, and i noticed that the sticker prices of the 2010 3 series were shockingly high, i remember just several years ago when they were around 30k, almost all of the 328i's that i saw there yesterday were around 45k , with the most expensive topping 50k. I wonder if BMW anticipates the recession easing, because at these prices, there gonna have difficulty moving the cars.

Here's where you combine $2500 off, "low" or "no" interest, and then leasing, and the things move off the lots. Even on the forum we see threads such as "going from a 335 to a 328, will I miss anything?" Why would anyone go from a 335 to a 328? Nothing demonstrates better, the "must have" a BMW mentality despite the rising prices, way of life.

Eventually, markets do correct themselves. 50k for any 3 series, 335 or 328 is a lot of money. There are tons of good cars available for 10-15k less than that.

Well a fully loaded 328 will cost close to 50k easy. But that's fully loaded.

if 50k is too much, get a base model. There are alot of cars that are cheaper, but if you compare base model to base model there is a huge difference in materials alone. A semi-loaded accord/camry is is almost like a base model 328 with sunroof/leather etc. But after those options, the price range are going to be similar.

In the end, the extra $ all boils down to the options. But you also get a BMW suspension that is unique to BMW's over other brands, so dig deep into your pockets if you want a nicer stock suspension

The only important options that make the 328i complete IMO and still keep the price below $40k, are the sport pkg, iDrive, logic7, and autobox if you so incline. Everything else (sunroof, premium, heated seats, PDC, Xenon, etc.) offers little more in the way of enhancing the ownership experience of the car.

I remember when looking for my car 11/08 during the depths of the credit crisis, BMW was basically giving way the 328i. I think you could have a had pretty decently optioned one for about $31K or so with 0.9% financing.

I could see how you feel about iDrive if you have a pre-09 version. The latest iDrive is day and night different. But you're also right in that it is too does not contribute to the driving dynamics of the car.

I just see it as more electronics in the car, and also hate having to update the maps every year. Rather get a portable if i do need gps, i've used it maybe twice in the last year

I think it makes the most sense to buy a two year old used BMW with low miles. The first two years there is a great depreciation hit.

The new iDrive is superb and integrates not only the navigation but also music, telephony, etc. I had a 2007 E92 with iDrive and the new one blows it away. They've made significant changes to usability, speed and information with 3D maps, better use of the split screen, short-cuts, easy menus, multiple customizations, GoogleMaps integration, etc. and reduced the price of the option.

O i know the new one works alot better than the old, it's just for me. The only purpose of idrive would be for nav. The music isn't too important, cuz theres gonna be the usb slot anyways, if not i can use mp3 cds. and the telephone thing doesn't bother me at all, I don't like to talk on cell phones while driving, i usually don't pick up/tell them i'll call them back later. Thats what i meant by not needing idrive when picking options for price wise.

i think bmw prices have gone up the roof.
u can get a e350 for less than 50k and here we have 328i for 50k wooohooo.
I love bmw(s) but all of the sudden it is not making sense to get a new bmw anymore.
either ED or an used one.

Played around with the BMW konfigurator on the BMW DE website. http://www.bmw.de/de/de/general/conf...figurator.html

A 325iT base MSRP €37,650 (there is no 328iT) and configured more-or-less like mine (nothing special -- stick shift, no metallic paint, no navigation system) would be close to €50,000 or $71,000. In Germany.

The US dollar has tanked of late. Much of the world would consider the prices we pay for BMWs a bargain.

I'll second that. That is just ridiculous. I would definitely go with a less optioned 335i any day....despite issues with HPFP.

2000 323i Sedan (170hp): $35,855 (Includes $200 for CD Player + $385 for Rear Side Air Bags)
2000 328i Sedan (193hp): $38,805

(2) Above plus Sat-Nav, Xenons, Heated Front Seats, Logic 7 or Harmon/Kardon Premium Sound & Automatic Transmission:

2010 328i Sedan (230hp): $44,575
2000 323i Sedan (170hp): $40,605 (Includes $200 for CD Player + $385 for Rear Side Air Bags)

Hunnnnh? We on the fourm know that from 2k7 to 2k9, the 335 coupe costs about $3600 more, I'm not following 2k10. You're going back to 2000 and finding no difference in the price? Do you work for BMW?!

Most members here will probably think I am crazy but I optioned my E90 328i to nearly $50K, since I wanted most of the bells and whistles. But if I can do it again, I will skip the Smartphone Integration, Heated Seats and Comfort Access.

To the OP: I have also seen several dealerships here in SoCal where the E90/E92 328i are optioned to nearly $50K. Which dealership did you go to? If the ones you saw was a E93 328i, I wouldn't be surprised. But if it was a E90/E92 328i, then I can see why it is shocking to be price nearly $50K.

Keep in mind we're all enthusiasts - the other 95% of BMW buyers (especially in Socal) are not. Many people want the bells and whistles, and the NA engine is more than adequate for them.

I do agree though. A $50k 328 is a bit much.
