Is some flywheel rattle ok, or does it need to be replaced right away?

It is pretty clear my dual mass flywheel is rattling when I shut my 330xi down. It isn't excessive, but definitely present. I have no other ill effects - it idles great for instance. Is this an issue I can live with until it gets worse, or is it something that I need to address now to avoid damaging other components?

Thanks! Mike

I thought this was a pretty common thing with newer BMWs? There was some discussion about this in the past. Mine certainly does it--has since I got it new from the factory order....

Wait, that was on manual cars. Is yours a manual or an auto?

Garage List
If you have a manual and shut it down in neutral with the engaged then this is completely normal.

Totally normal. You don't need to worry about the flywheel until you start feeling vibrations at idle or chatter engaging the clutch.

Yes, MT

Great to hear this is "normal."

Should we be shutting down in a specific manner to avoid damaging the DMF?

Thanks! Mike

Normal. If you press down on the clutch pedal before shutting of the car, you will not hear the noise.
