Koni FSD vs M sport-335d
Has anyone changed their existing M sport set-up to the Koni fsd kit?
If so,what's the verdict and did you change springs or use the existing M springs? Cheers for any replies... |

http://www.tirerack.com/suspension/tests/koni_fsd.jsp I used the FSD on a standard E91 SE suspension, no other change than the dampers, got what I was looking for, better handling, softer ride. HighlandPete |

They're quite expensive for just a shock option when reasonable quality coilovers are available for the same money. ( I understand the point and benefit of the FSD) Last edited by 335DEE; 02-04-2013 at 11:30 AM.. |

I've been reading your update with interest and thanks for the link.Unfortunately,i think that my hand has been forced and I've had to opt for replacement M sport suspension. I would have liked to try the Koni kit combined with Eibach springs. I was trying to research this quickly today,on the fly, while trying to (unsuccessfully) get BMW to sort my car under warranty. Ideally,I want the benefit of of the sports set-up,without a 'crashy' ride.Something a little bit more compliant. However,I'm trying to gauge this against the fact that I now know that my shocks and one spring was facked... Happy days! |

How many miles has the car done Billy? How old? How does the Tourer handle when going off road, and you thinking it's a 4x4 Depending on the above (age, mileage) I'd be pushing for some goodwill,is it all 4 shocks that are fubared?

As you've given me a nice smiley,I'll tell you my tale of woe.I was going to post in the angry and rude thread, with a lot more expletives, but here we go...
It's a sore subject at the mo and I'd accept the hit if I didn't look after the car-I've not even struck any noticeable potholes, despite the roads being in shite order! Basically,I drove to work with no issues and on the drive back, the car has suffered a cracked coil spring. Apparently, damage to the spring could have happened over a prolonged period, with it being constantly hit with carriageway stones-causing weakness=crack. This has also caused terminal damage to a winter tyre and brake flex. No goodwill gesture as the BMW tech has said its a wear and tear issue-56 plate and 80k. Mondial would have authorised the work, however, they have accepted this verdict and I'm on my own. BMW have looked at the car and said that I also have three leaking shocks. The latter wasn't picked up during a health check a few weeks ago at the same main stealer. Cost to repair £1700... I've now had the car transferred to my (trusted) Indy. They have has said that they will look at the shocks to see if they are actually leaking-if they are,ill replace them and that's why I've been trying to research alternative options to the M setup. They have also quoted me to replace everything, using oem stock and its nearly a grand cheaper. That's been my day(At least Mondial are allowing me two more days with their courtesy car). |

I don't remember exactly, but my Bilstein/Eibach setup came in at around £600, and it's light years better than the standard M Sport suspension. The garage will have to do no more work to replace the springs if they're doing the dampers anyway. If you're thinking about replacing the full setup, I'd seriously recommend this instead. My thread here from when I lowered my E91. HTH

Thanks for the link...
I went to have a quick look at that link in E Bay and he only seems to stock the B4 damper-I believe that I would need a B4s for the Eibachs-correct? |

I have the Bilstein B12 kit on my car, its Bilstein B8s dampers with Eibach Pro springs. It dropped my car by 40mm from the 4x4 look of SE! The car is completely transformed. It's firmer than Msport, but some how better over bumps and potholes. It now sits really nicely as well

Still waiting for the verdict on what's ok and what's not.
However,I am leaning towards the Koni FSD and Eibach Pro set up. I'll obviously be replacing the bumpstops too.Looking at a few threads,it seems that the Msport items are fine-it's only the US market that have reported problems with the length of these. Any thoughts and anything else a "must",while I'm at it. Basically,I want a more compliant yet focused ride than the existing Msport set-up... |

Your sig says you've already got an MSport car, so I can't see why you would need to change your bump stops...
