Caught doing 96 on the motorway...
Any ideas what I'll be in for?
The fleet manager left me a message so I've not seen the letter but I get the impression from his tone that it is a notice of intended prosecution rather than an offer of a fixed penalty. I'll hold my hands up and take whats coming (can't do a lot else!), just wondered if anyone else had been in a similar predicament? |

Sounds expensive + 5/6 points which won't equate to prizes!
I'd be getting some form of legal advice also at that speed,it's ban territory. What were the road conditions at the time, foggy, rainy etc, it does make a difference. You might find this sight useful: http://www.pepipoo.com/

SP50's carry 3-6 points, discretionary disqualification and do not exceed level 4 fines (£2,500), comforting! All subjective according to varying circumstances.
I may well be paying a visit down south at some point in the future. Is it really that bad down there for speed cameras etc? |

didnt realise 90 odd was a ban these days, thought it was 100 still.
I came across a van the other day about late 90's didnt even brake cuz it had orange lights so thought it was a contractor type van, untill i got closer and saw it sdaid safety cams But i need to ask you guys, it was on the right hand side of the bridge above me and closer to the other side of the road not mine, was it doing people on the other side of the carrieageway or my side? (was in work van)

YES, but it was on the other side and on the right, not my side closest to the barrier above me (on his wrong side of the road) and not on my left hand side but on my right above the opposite carriegeway?!

its got to be a court job you can turn up or dont i think, first of all they ask who was driving, then they send you a letter saying the court date. depends on the judge that day i guess,

You will probably be ok as it was on the other carridgeway. The may have windows on both sides of the van.

Boo, they have to send a NIP before an offer of fixed penalty to identify who was driving and wether they`re eligible for a fixed penalty offer. I got done at 93 last year and was told the cut off was 96 mph in a 70. Speak to a brief but I really wouldn`t worry to much. (unless od course your already on 9 ).

It's strange the amount of conflicting info that people recount when nicked by the boys in blue. I was done in 2004 on the M6 toll, I was told then that anything over and above 95mph was a potential ban. Strangely enough I got done on the M3 nr Basingstoke in 2001 for 103.4 mph,got away with 5 points and a £300.00 fine. Whats really weird is that my license has it recorded as a SP30 offence code Best of luck Boo, no point in losing sleep over it though, just come up with a suitable bad luck and heart tugging story as mitigating circumstances.

Interesting you got done on the Birmingham superhighway. I have always wondered if the police can get you on a toll road.

I was told that @96+ you can't get a fixed penalty & have to go to court.
6 points & fine or a ban not exceeding 42 days i think. Oddly enough, even though motorways are the safest roads, you get the harshest penalties for speeding on them. I got pulled by plod a while back and am currently awaiting a court date as well

Carlos, can you please bring some aspirin to UK5? I'm still gonna have a headache even then.

Hi all, thanks for the replies....
I've not seen the letter yet, but it was on the M180 near scunthorpe a couple of weeks ago... There I am, minding my own business, on one of the quietest bits of motorway you could ever hope for - mid morning, sunny day - I overtake a line of lorrys, 4 or 5 of them in a convoy. I'm only in the middle lane - it's that quiet - and the instant I clear the last lorry..... there's the van. If they've got a photo, it'll be clear what I'm saying at this point!! Points don't worry me - I'm currently point free, but a ban would put me on very dodgy ground regarding my employment. I'll let you know how I get on....
