Sounds like your keyfob battery might be dead. In previous cars I've replaced the battery in my fob, but I've heard that it actually charges when it's inserted (not sure if that's true. If not I'm sure someone will call me a dumbass shortly). Do you have CA and don't use the fob hole? If so, try inserting they fob the next time you drive. Otherwise see if you can change the battery.
As far as programming goes, that generally happens at the dealer, or if you order a second fob, they get it in partially programmed or as a "blank" and the first time you insert the fob it syncs to your car. That's how it was with the one I ordered. So no real programming needed, unlike my infiniti where it was a complex thing with inserting the key, moving it to accy mode, hitting brake/gas/whatever until it worked. |

AFAIK, the non CA FOB battery is not user serviceable but does recharge while in the slot. If the battery has reached EOL then the FOB must be replaced or you have to hack open the FOB, try replacing it and glue it back together.

^ im not sure. I have CA and when my dash shows me a "Low battery key" sign, I put the key into the slot and the thing works for a while based on how long it was in the slot. You can try it and see if it works. On your next drive, insert the key into the fob and drive around for 10-15 miinutes.. then see if it works
