Hey how's this going? Got the car back?

I had no idea that the stock OEM pistons were Mahle built forged units...is this correct? This would mean all the internals are forged which isn't what I thought all this time...i know for a fact the crank is forged and recently found out that the con rods are also forged...if the pistons are also forged that's just amazing

The car is still not fully reassembled. It's getting there, though. The OP will be back with updates in due time, but due to time constraints these will not be forthcoming immediately.

Pursuant to the latest info I have (as of yesterday), the car should be ready in the next 2-3 weeks. Took a bit more time than anticipated, mainly because the owner is distracted with other matters.

WOW! It looks like that oil is not just getting into the intake little by little. It looks like the intake valves were DRIPPING with it.

Perhaps the matter of a dry sump system could be revisited here.

A little off topic but I have a question that maybe someone here can answer. In this pic(OP's modified) we're looking at the front of the crank.

I need to replace my crank hub due to an accident the car was in, I have a 32nd or so of wobble in the pulley which is causing the belt to derail and shred every so often. My question is, does the timing sprocket ride on this snout directly, ride on the hub itself, or in between the two? I'm trying to do this without timing tools and am very nervous about pulling the hub without having the cams and crank locked.

Thanks, Bo

Cam shaft question

Nice setup there . I have a question when you are aligning the camshaft , are the 3D bar code suppose to be facing upward or downward also does it matter if the Vanos gear set at any angle before you torque down the camshaft bolt ( of cuz the cam trigger wheel are set with the tool)??

The car has been up and running for a few weeks now. However, it still needs some time to be broken in properly (1500 - 2000 miles) as the engine is basically new.

It does run very well even during this break-in phase, though. Much, much better than before.

I'm sure the OP will be back with a more detailed update once the car's broken in and he's had time to do a write-up.

The OP is unfortunately very busy with a professional project right now, and has been for almost a year.

I can tell you that the engine has been modified accordingly, has been driven for around 1000 miles (break-in), then been taken apart to inspect all clearances. It has now been reassembled and the car is driving, and very well at that. Everything is working perfectly. The OP is planning to drive it on the Nürburgring this year, but it is currently unclear when that will happen.

I fear that he will have no time for an extensive report on this, at least for the time being.

I suppose no one can still give me the answer to this? Still shredding belts, the most recent today resparked my want to replace the hub. I'd just really hate to slide it out and the lower sprocket and chain go flying upward.
