Are the CObb numbers before protuning? because they seem really low compared to JB4 and Procede

They would not be pro-tuned numbers. I suspect those numbers are a little out of date. Cobb now has a number of stage 1 maps. I dyno'd 330whp (409wtq) with stage 1 aggressive on a dyno dynamics dyno. Apparently these read lower than a mustang dyno. Definitely read lower than dynojet (by 10-12% I'm told).

Comparing dyno numbers is tricky. Different dynos, different conditions, different cars....

I figured that these numbers are not pro-tuned. I was hoping that these numbers would all be from one Dyno ( Dynojet) . I know different conditions will give different numbers but at least the numbers would not be as different as comparing Dynojet to Mustang Dyno.

think they are all from a dynojet. Regardless, I am pretty sure the cobb maps have come a ways since that chart was compiled.

Hey guys I'm new to e90post
Reading this info is very helpful, I just bought a 2007 335i Convert and was wondering what a good first mod would be. I was thinking of a tune but I am not sure which would be the best option.
btw I have 81k miles

Should some of the Cobb parameters for auto tune, barometric adjustment and so on be n/a or ticked because DME does that out of the box?

not informed, just asking

Reading on everything they all seem with a tune alone get the n54 engine about +50hp/tq.
I like the Cobb for it's ease of install plug in and it's done, I came from a mustang so this is how all our tuning was done was through an SCT handheld.
But I like the dash controls for the BMS and it's also very cheap compared to Vishnu(procede) and Cobb running around 800.
I've never worked on a BMW myself or know anything about a piggyback making me nervous about taking everything apart to get to the ECU to wire in a piggyback.
Are the piggybacks easy to install?

BMS installation is very easy. and they have a video on their website showing you how to install everything.

I was in the same boat as you . . . terrified to open my ECU compartment. But once I watched the video, and read the instructions, it really is easy. As long as you have basic mechanical skills (like being able to turn a screwdriver) it is a breeze.

Thanks guy makes me feel a lot better. I have some mechanical skills on my mustang i had replaced headers and had the engine down to the block and heads at one point. I also replaced the front and rear bumpers when they had become worn. I'm more of a body guy than engine. Thanks i think I'll save up for the BMS and go that route. Does the BMS reduce the engine life any? I drive really casually and may open it up once or twice.

I am sure it causes extra strain on the drive train. You are adding about 100 extra HP. That being said, there are guys running 500 WHP with stock internals and transmissions. The N54 motor internals seem to be built like a rock. I am in the same boat as you, it is my DD, I dont track it. I have had a JB4 for over a year with no problems other than a misfire that was corrected by a plug change. There are also guys that have been tuned for 50 -70k miles with not real adverse effects.

Sweet thanks, with 81k on the car i didnt want to be pushing it too hard and make the engine die quicker. Knowing that bmw builds a solid car already i thought it wouldnt have to many bad effects. Is a misfire common on the n54?
On another on, ive heard the 2007(the first year?) for the n54 335s had problems with the fuel pumps failing, are there any other known major problems? Seeing as it has 80k on it and all its maintanence is up to date. I would think its okay?

The HPFP was an issue. The warranty has been extended to 100k I believe. Misfirings are common once you get a tune. I would plan on changing your plugs. This explains it pretty well.

Gonna call my local bmw dealer and see if it had been changed. I'm sure they can look it up in their systems. If its not too hard to do a plug change myself ill do it myself and some me some money, but ive nevr worked on a bmw before.

Very easy. It takes a little time to break down the cowl, and engine cover if you have never done it before, but it is not hard.
