Brakes are very easy to do, I would just get oem equivalent replacements, bmw brakes are very good. Usually if you look on parts sites online you can find the same parts as oem, just without the bmw logo for much cheaper.

Unless you wanna hook a brother up over at your dealership... ill take a free brake and rotor replacement!!!

yeah, i have like 65 on the car now, and even if i still could buy the extended maint, i probably wouldnt. its like 16-1700 bucks. I feel like i could do everything myself that more than likely will need to be done over the next year or two for much cheaper than that, or, at least spend that over time. I dont have that kinda money to dish out right now.. ill PM you the VIN tho just in case you can hook anything up.

anyone know if there is a replacement for the stock rotors thats a two piece rotor .... maybe slotted or drilled as well? reducing rotational mass even by 5lbs a wheel makes a big difference... did it on my volvo and i could feel a difference

Contemplating whether to clean off the rust on the rotors or just replace them...

Sorry if this comes across as threadjacking, definitely not my intention.
Zinc coating prevents rust from forming on the hat and vents. I've had zinc coated rotors on my Civic for years and they look brand new still. As far as you comments on the rusting, I don't care WHAT rotor you buy (unless it has the words carbon ceramic attached to it) the face of any iron rotor will rust if you put water on it. If they were refering to the hat and vents rusting, then yes, some rotors do rust immediately in those areas. YMMV.

And to answer Mr Whites question, YES!!! There are 2-piece rotors in an OEM size available from the Tirerack. BEWARE!! The are anything but cheap.

Take a deep breath, and then scroll down to the DBA 5000 series. Not only do 2-piece rotors decrease unsprung weight, they also draw heat away from the rotor face. A nice added bonus IMO.
