My E90 has halogen, and wanted to change to Xenon. I was told from another member in this forum that the headlamp housing can be plug-and play with a small modification to the plugs. However, there will be a computer error message because of the 55W-vs-35W difference. That needs the dealer to re-program the computer. However, the only BMW dealer in Hong Kong will not do it.

When I go to my dealer (BMW HK), they told me that there is retrofit kit (without adaptive) for upgrading to Xenon. This is very expensive at HK$40,000 part+labour (around US$5K). I have the retro. kit/part number somewhere. If anyone needs the number, I will go search. For the retro kit, it still needs to replace quite a lot of parts other than the headlights. There is some devices that you need to install at both the front and rear axile for the automatic leveling. Also, replacing the light switch inside the cabin and the junction box. This sounds like a big mod.

Anyone else knows a cheaper way to upgrade?

halogen projectors with Xenon/HID bulbs

I looked into changing an AUDI over a few years ago. You will be disappointed if you use halogen projectors with Xenon/HID bulbs (a.k.a. plug and play). HID light is created in an arc as opposed to point. The light pattern thrown by OEM halogen projectors will be brighter but unfocused. The projectors can be very expensive. Also, do not be fooled by Zenon bulbs, with a"Z", essentially a marketing ploy of a halogen bulb. They are not the same as with Xenon-HID bulbs.

parachute,

i know you must be very frustrated by what seems to be a lack of pnp xenons for the e90.

i too cannot answer that for you, but it may help if you could explain your reasons for wantig them. is it for your e90 or someone elses e90 or what?

i do know that it is a very different lighting setup, with the remote light leveller adjustment not part of the xenon setup, so there may have to be additional connections to the computer because the xenons are self levelling.

i do hope that you find what you are looking for but please dont rush into it and waste your money.

all the best.

so listen to this, my car is at the dealer now cause at the audio place the blew some fuse. They gave me a 325 loaner and has xenons but no zsp or nav. But I fell in love with those lights, I even leave it parked with the anles on in the lot. lol

I am really frustrated. SO here's the deal: I dont care about auto leveling or turning of the lights (which is sweet), but I want them really bad on my car. I am willing to spend about 1300 for everything. hElp!!!

Gotcha,

I think as part of the way xenons shine, they must be self levelling. Anyway, I understand that the xenons are great, so if anyone can help parachute wiith a definitive answer....

Again, I hope you find what you are looking for.

I wish BMW made XENONS standard on all CARS.
I'd care less for any other option but I must have XENONS.

im sure people want to help but ive read a lot on this because i want to do the same but from what i've read people dont really know. Ive heard that you can get the retro-fit kit from the dealer for about $4K (US dollars). Ive also heard that it is not plug and play because of the adaptive, leveling, and because of different wattages. i saw that ebay auction and want to buy it, but I sure dont feel like droppin $400 on crappola. If anyone knew im sure they would help but I dont think anyone knows for sure, if you figure it out, I would love to do the same.

(should have just waited longer for xenons )

even if someone buys your headlights they still need to get their car re-programmed and who knows if the adapters will work?
