This is exactly what people do to the VW R32 muffler valve. It's called the "flapper mod."
It has no effect on performance. It is for sound purposes only.

do we even have to take the hose off of the valve?
I couldn't take the hose off and didn't wanna break it so i just zip-tied the hose and left it in attached to the valve.
would this cause any problems?

I was wondering the same thing. I bought my car second-hand, so I don't know if the previous owner did something. But, my hose is still connected and at idle the flapper is open. I don't know if this is normal or not.

Thumbs up

Just unplugged actuator on my 07 335i. Minimal difference in idle but will keep it unplugged for a week or so to see if any change. Definitely notice deeper more pronounced tone accelerating, even with windows up and max a/c! Quite happy, got zip ties and about to zip tie the valve once i get under there and its cooler out.

NO WAY. Huge difference between the 325 and 330. I experience driving both every single week..

This seems an easy mod but can someone tell me if this really makes a big difference in sound? Or I should say if its worth it to do it. Thanks

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I was just wondering if anyone's done this using electrical tape instead of zip ties?

the whole point is to block off the vacuum hose i dont think electrical tape could do that lol.
you can also unplug a harness in one of the trunk compartments. diy should be here somewhere if you dont wanna do it physically.
