N55 Catch Can Finally Released :)
BMS has finally released their N55 oil catch can kit. It uses the same can as the N54 kit, only with a special anodized aluminum bracket and machined PCV adapter. While the N55 generally has less blow by than the N54, partly because it doesn't generate as much power output, they have seen oil coating chargepipes and managed to catch quite a bit of garbage.
Here are some pics for those interested... |

Is this critical to the car's operation only under heavy boost? I mean surely if it were needed from the factory BMW would have built one in, no?
Then again, I'm sure we're talking about aftermarket tunes... |

Sucks because I'm looking to keep this under warranty as much as possible. It's doubtful a stealership would install it, let alone support it, which kinda ties me to an indy shop to mess about with it...though I am really thinking about it now that you mention that...

seems like you need to be more involved with your dealership, start getting to know your Tech and service guy.

The reality is that it would require constant service and its not something that is necessary if you don't drive your car very hard and care about performance, etc... My feeling is that BMW wouldn't add it due to the service issues. For a lot of owners this would require a yearly or bi-yearly trip to the dealer to empty. For a lot of us its super simple but for a lot of owners touching the engine or the car in any way is a no go. Mike |

Well, I'm only 4k into her, so hopefully I caught the issue early (pun intended)! Any service concerns to be worried about (routine maintainence etc?) should it be removed for that sort of thing? Thoughts?
