Tyre Question
Dumb newbie question of the evening # 1
If I want to move to non-RFTs, do I have to swap all four at the same time? or can I just swap a pair at a time ? eg: my rears are spent and I need to change them. I'm also chuffed off with the ride on RFTs, feels like I'm constanly driving on tram rails or get misdirected when the road has any adverse camber. I suspect that I'll have to swap all four, I'm just trying to minimise cost at the mo. Any advice?

2. Are you sure that the RFT's are the source of the tram railing / camber problems? I don't get this with my tyres. How are the pressures / wear? |

i wouldnt recommend changing unless doing all four, it may even make the handling worse-unpredictable, that said i wouldnt even drive a car of my own that had different makes of tyres let alone different construction types, try event tyres online they are quite cheap and the prices quoted are fitted at your place of work or home.
you wont regret ditching the RFT's

Thanks NFS, I kind of thought about the safety aspect..... I check the tyre pressures every fortnight, so wouldn't seem to be the cause. From a wear perspective, the fronts have about 5mm and the rears have about 3mm. Wear seems to be pretty even, I'm not seeing anything unusual, running on Michelin Pilot Sports..... Fronts are:225/40/18 Rears are: 255/35/18 Any suggestions regarding alternative makes/models both RFT and non-RFTs.....

i know its very hard to get RFT PS2 for the rear for your car easy for the back, so if you did go down the route of changing you would have to change brands, i have p zero on the back and PS2 on the front all runflat seems to do the job lol, but i wished i did the non runflat route now, PS2 non runflats are easy to get hold of

would you want to drive a car with two different types of tyres with totally different handling characteristics? i think you'd be alone in that one

I'd be willing to bet it's safer then 3 RFT's and a donut though.

I have been extremely impressed with the tyres in all situations so far. They are a huge improvement on the RFTs. All of the harshness, chrashiness and tramlining are gone - driving over cats eyes no longer risks displacing a tooth and minor rattles are gone too. I personally felt that the RFTs were acceptable for what they are, but replacing them for non run flats makes a significant improvement to the whole driving experience. I really understand why Alpina and M Division do not use RFTs - they significantly comprimise the driving experience of what should be a segment leader in this area, and is when shod with non run flats. Back to the Vredesteins, they really are a seriously good tyre. Do some research, they are very well rated on many decent motoring forums and review sites. I purchased mine from Pneus Online, a very competitive retailer. Also - the Vredesteins are XL rated and so have a relatively hard side wall, making them a good combination with the RFT tuned setup on e92s in particular. Hope this helps. Ben |

About what? mixing crossplys with radials on the same axle was dangerous, mixing radials on different axles would not be an ideal track setup, but most people, if any don't go near a tyres performance abilites on a public road. Not saying i would do it, but that is because RFT's are shit in comparison to a quality tyre. |
