Who's in the Abridge/Ongar area?

So come, own up.

Which one of you enjoys a quick blast on the roads between/around Abridge and Ongar? I've seen you the past couple of nights enjoying a nice evening drive (pretty sure it was the same car), I gave you a little flash of the lights today...

Yeah, I was out for a quick blast yesterday evening as well as the night before. Pretty sure it was the same (dark coloured) E92 that I saw as the night before around the same area. The guy driving was pretty on it I reckon...having said that, I was doing 60 odd and if he was doing the same our closing speed would have been near on 120mph so it would have looked quick either way!

Nah, E92 of some description, dark colour. I didn't get a look at the rear...

Just wanted to know if it was anyone on here as they looked like they were enjoying their car which is exactly what I was out doing.

Surprised ive not seen a few of you - my friend owns Carriages in Theydon Bois, so i drive down there quite a lot for a bite to eat etc - i live in Chigwell and go via Abridge up to Theydon and then back - i also use that road a fair bit on my bike as it has some nice sweeping knee down corners. The road from Abridge to Ongar is another favourite, mainly on the bike, and then from Ongar (past one of my favourite restaurants "Smiths" - referred to as posh fish n chips by Sir Alan Sugar!!) - onto Finchingfield. Amazing but very very dangerous road and now very popular with the feds on a sunday!! Will keep an eye out for all these E92's and give you a flash if i see you!!

I am a regular on the roads you mention. My "just for fun" route is from Chigwell Row down Gravel Lane I think it's called. From there right at the roundabout into Abridge. Out the otherside of Abridge and left at the next roundabout up to Chipping Ongar. Straight through there and right onto the A414 all the way to the Writtle roundabout. Through Writtle and left at the top. Then a cheeky couple of lefts and back down into Ongar (from the North, passing Smith's on my right) and back home via Abridge/Chigwell Row/Hainault.

Great little route but there are not many overtaking spots so if you get stuck behind a 40mph'er you're fucked.

EDIT:

I believe that Smith's Brasserie also featured in an ep of Come Dine With Me...bit of useless trivia for you.

Has anyone tried Alecs new place (previously owner of Smiths) -surprise surprise called "Alec's" in Knavestock yet? Hasnt been opened long but looks like a stunning refurb. We walked the dogs over there on Sunday. Funnily enough a silver grey 3 series alpina coupe came blasting past in other direction going through Theydon!

Slightly off topic, so apologies, but who does just go for a blast without actually having a destination in mind?

I am going to have to try both Smith's and this new place Alec's.

Nice drive to get there, nice meal and then a quick blast back home. Missus will be impressed that I'm taking her out for dinner when really I'll be going for the drive

Frequently. The route I mention above is basically my "driving for the fun of it" route. Mind you, my tyres seem to have taken a battering lately because of it. I had a KDS done at the end of May and my treads were:

FOS: 9mm
FNS: 9mm
ROS: 8mm
RNS: 7mm

Now (after plenty of summer evening drives around the areas mentioned above) they're more like:

FOS: 6.5mm
FNS: 6.5mm
ROS: 5mm
RNS: 5mm

Hopefully I will get a couple thousand more miles out of them though.

Have you ever tried a place called Carriages in Theydon Bois? A friend of mine owns and runs it. Its a bistro style pub - excellent chef, great food and reasonably priced. He also has a costa coffee in there - so i can recommend a pit stop on your blast through!!!
