Standard S3 265 has a slower 0-100mph than standard 335d!

Its because it was the old model that it surprised me. The new S3 as posted by other members is 265bhp 2.0T Quattro so is almost same power as 335d but in a lighter body.
I knew that that would have been quicker than my 335d, whereas I knew the old one was about 220 so thought it was dog food!
How wrong I was lol!

DavS1, what do you mean by 'private' motorway lol
How have u still got a license?

Insurance company have told me I must behave myself carlos otherwise the car will have to be sold, so no rolling 60 - 120 for now. 0-85 is about as much as im willing to risk.

Got a lot of time for your cars there Matt. Did you go S-Tronic or Manual in the S3?
Do you still have the R35 GTR?

If anyone saw the weather yesterday in the South West it was warm and sunny as you you could hope for in February. Perfect conditions.

P.S. We're on a BMW forum and everyone keeps mentioning the clio. Why?
The clio is a 335 killaaaaa ....LOL

That S3 must have been remapped big time!!!.....I don't think standard S3 can do anything to a 335d with dtc off and non rft.....

Hence why I was reeling him in big time at about 65mph!

Charlie the b7 RS4 4.2 V8 N/A only produced 420hp. How the hell did you get 470 out of the mk1 RS4 engine?!?! Lol

Bet she struggled to go past a petrol station without needing a drink as well!

lol, you know the private motorway everybody has in their back garden for these high speed 'runs'

Simple answer to still having my license is, I got rid of the thing before I lost it, killed myself or someone else! Kinda gutted I never turned the boost back up to 2bar, what it should have been running (was on 1.6bar). best part was it only cost me 2K to buy, and a further 1k insuring, fitting a 2nd fuel pump and fixing the head gasket 'issue' it had. I'm talking myself into another one here....

My car isn't boring I'll have you know lol. If you mean they don't 'flatter' you into thinking you're a good driver then yes, you have a point and yes, a fault I'd say, if you can call it a fault, is that you can lack a sense of how fast you're really going, until you check out the digital speedo, my excuse why 6 of my points were gained in the S5.

Quattro should not be used as a given to be fool hardy though, physics are physics.

Tis a lot of money for a small car, but technology isn't cheap these days. Dry sump lubrication a la Porsche, 4 pot piston calipers and brakes made in conjunction with Brembo (apparently), dual clutch gearbox as standard etc and that's just the RS3. The little 1M is also the same price @ £39,990 OTR but without the above features and in manual box.

Hey,

I think you know what I mean....it's just hasn't that 'feel' you get from BMW's. I know I might sound ultra bias when I say that. Even the RS4 which I drove - tremendous engine and traction - but it was all spoilt by that, almost, 'unwanted' feeling you get when driving a fast Audi. Yet, compared that to my recent escapades in an M3 - I would chose the M3 all day long. HOWEVER....If i was to choose one for my wife to drive with the little'un - it would be the RS4. Of course, I wouldn't say 'no' if someone offered to give me an RS4 for nowt

How's the TTRS treating you?

That's some serious BHP per Tonne. I'd it imagine it being very nose heavy around corners.

And you get £2,000 worth of sat nav too on RS3; extra on 1M. Crap.

FPO - RWD, RFTs and an open diff?

Hardly a surprise the little 4wd hatch thrashed you if so.

Had an 8L S3. (hence the stupid internet name) The 210 Bhp version and launched far better than most cars. Would happily taken on most as dumping the clutch was not a problem. The only thing that ever went on it was the MAF and the clutch pedal itself!

Quattro system far superior to the golf R32 4WD, and would easily out handle it because of better weight distribution. Far easier drive fast round the twisties. But i doubt in standard form it would be near at standard 335D with the D's torque. I guess the S3 would have been tuned. Awsome car which was far more fun to drive than the 335D mainly because i'd taken mine on a track and learned how to balance it. But mine was coming up for 60k, so traded in for a the 335D. Which was better in many ways except for the gearbox, although having gotten to 33 i felt like an auto as i was getting lazy!

qst an audi mtm tuning company made it full rs4 running gear and gear box so no haldex - funny now my remapped 335 is only 50 or so bhp off it now but much more comfy!

I loved the B5 RS4 so much with its twin turbo lump. Prefered it to the current one. I remember when they came out (the B5) and it was an epic car!

Sorry but this post is full of bull. The older S3 uses the SAME Haldex AWD system as the R32. Very few Audis use "proper" Torsen based 4WD - only the hottest models like the RS4. The R32 is more aggressive, sportier, quicker around a track, accelerates quicker, sounds better, etc, etc.

I drove both the 225bhp S3 and the mk4 R32 (which I bought) and was gobsmacked at how much better the Golf was - I assumed it would be the Audi I went for before testing them.

And if there are still any doubts, check this Evo road test:

http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/carg..._cooper_s.html

m1 - errmmm, it doesn't sound like the 335d got "thrashed" - launch a 335d correctly and not a lot can keep up, especially an older S3.

Well it was a surprise as a) it was dry and had no traction problems and b) Theres over 60 horses difference between us, plus I had a better power to weight ratio.

Stock Power to weight ratios:

8L S3 - 146 bhp / tonne

E92 335d - 170 bhp / tonne

Also the quattro on the 8L S3 was not permanent 4wd, it was an on demand system which primarily used FWD.

P.S. A friend of the families has owned almost every RS car Audi have produced. Starting with the RS2 - RS6, who cares about the numb handling with the power those figures put out.

I'd rather have good handling and less power.

Ford Puma, last shape MR2, MX5, 106 GTi, Elise, etc - low power but LOADS of fun.
Most recent fast Audis apart from the RS4 and R8 - spoilt by dull dynamics, naff steering and snatchy brakes.

Not entirely correct and not my experience in the TTS. Dynamically it's exciting to drive quickly. Whilst not being as well balanced as the Caymen S, it's a sharp instrument when you know how to use it. Steering is over light at low speed, but weighs up nicely at higher speeds. Not quite as much feedback as the BMW but not numb. Brakes are linear and well set up. E92's were sharper. Quattro is superb. Helen is correct about the speed though...easy to get there without being aware until you get used to it.

Admittedly not driven the current TT - sounds like it's a big improvement on the older one and I do like the TTS and TTRS looks wise - shallow me!
