I've had moleskin installed since day one with my tint and no issues so far, and i tend to roll all four windows down a lot.

very common...
My e90 came from Florida and tinted... first thing i noticed was the little "scratch" marks down the insides on the front windows... annoying? yes. Enough to make me pay to get the windows re-tinted? No. Surprised it doesn't scratch the glass inself... even on non-tinted windows.

i have some scratches but its more like smears, you can clean it and it goes away so u can tell its rubbing but not hard enough or because the coupe windows have the liner so its more just getting dirty. If you have the sedan i assume that applies to the fronts only nothing else. buy the protectors and bring them there and have them put them on when they tint them and u will be fine..... also lock ur windows if possible for the first few days. I rolled mine down first day to tell someone their gas cap was open... didnt screw it up luckily

I have a 2006 330i and I do have that issue. It doesn't take too many ups and downs for the lines to be formed. It sucks, but it isn't really noticeable from the outside.

Have the same problem on my 2011 E90. Had tint installed about a month ago and just noticed a few vertical scratches. You can only see them from a certain angle and not from the outside.

MoleSkin vs. Cutting
Just bought my first BMW and it definitely has the vertical scratches on previous owners tint. I am going to have it re tinted but I am reading and also my shop that tinted my previous two cars recommended cutting the inner weatherstrip that is causing the scratching. He said alot of people use the MOLESKIN but that it tends to fall off during the hot summers and leaves lots of residue from the adhesive which can be a headache to remove. I live in FL so during the summer it does get very hot and I can see how the adhesive can wear off and come off. Has anyone had experience with both?

Just go to "sunshield tint" I actually called the dealer and had them refer me where they suggest tints,
And I must say sunshield was awesome, I have a e92 I got my 3 back windows done for 110$ scratch resistant and UV ray protection, went back a week later and got my 2 front for 60$ scratch resistant UV ray protection. Check them out, celebrities take there car there as well it's a legit place! |

It doesn't really DO anything to it, there just little bumps that the the tint cant stink to in between the dots causing it to be elevated. Some jobs come out worse then others. I tried to have vinyl applied to the top of mine and the tint guys couldn't get it to stick. So I just had them tint over it regularly. Search for dot matrix e92 and you should be able to see some pics of what im talking about. Also if your getting the car done I would HIGHLY recommend the llumar air 80 tint for the front windshield too.

"Lifetime warranty" typically only covers "defects" in the film. It usually doesn't cover damage caused by owners (seat belt hits, ring scratches), or their cars (regulator and molding scratches) .
ie./peeling or bubbles (covered), scratches or holes knocked in the film (not covered) Hope that helps your decision. |

+1 to scratches, but very fine scratch lines that you only notice at certain angles

It really doesn't matter what tint material you use. It will still scratch because there is no factory felt on the inside of the windows weather strip. Grit, sand, dirt et is rubbing against a hard piece of plastic and your tint.
There are really only two options if you don't want scratches. 1. Apply Felt on the inner seals from Tint Protector 2. Don't tint your car. Even the most high end tint material will scratch vertically over time. |
