Carl
you really love numbers. Here's a few more.. Buy Autocar mag this week and read the 0-100-0 times of all cars on test. To calm the bulge in your pants read why they chose a B3 to represent the 3 series in the saloon car section. Then continue and see that the 335i stock stuffed the 335d in accelaration and stopping. ..But the b3 was king! M3 was not available but having read many reviews i think the b3 is the better bet providing you can live with an auto. Now go to bed like daddy has been telling you and if you are still thinking numbers count some sheep. |

Aye, shows how strong the diesel is eh?
The Auto 335i is only slightly quicker than the Auto 335d according to BMW's official figures: 5.7 vs 6.1 and 5.5 for the Manual 335i. Many tests have achieved quicker times than these from the various cars but the differences overall are about the same between them. Auto boxes are far superior to previous generations and the difference between Manual and Auto is becoming very close indeed.

I think it would be a pig to drive. The clutch would be heavier than the manual M3 clutch and you`d constantly be running out of revs. Even my manual DMS`d 325d was a pain in the backside, quick diesels are much more suited to the slow slushboxes. |

Auto boxes are horrible when it comes to driver involvement.

I would - only I just like the mid-range punch in a diesel too much.
Every time I have test drove a petrol (even very fast ones) I always felt there was something lacking. I supposed my brain is a bit jellied now with all the diesel fumes abuse over the years

I do tend to agree that a manual is less of a joy in a deisel though, since the torque delivery is so flat there isn't such a need for rapid downshifting - which I think is a bit of a shame. I sort of agree ... I could live with an auto in my car, but only if I had a rorty little manual petrol engined car to chuck around as well. I did ! Diesel fumes are particularly bad for the brain. I think this is why diesel drivers buy caravans ... no-one would decide to tow a large box behind their car at anti socially low speeds unless they were mentally impaired. |

basically these are the numbers measure--335!---335D--alpina B3--997 GT3 0-30-----2.18---2.26---2.08 ----1.59 0-60 ----5.33---5.84-- -4.78-----3.87 0-100----12.49--13.77--11.30----8.82 100-0----4.73---4.78---4.55 ----4.07 total-----17.22--18.55--15.85---12.89 so my plan is to I'm gonna save up next 18 months or so for a low miles 997GT3 (+ PCCB?) and keep the 335D/MINI. rather than get the year old 997s2 next spring. well I can dream can't I?

Also annoys me when some of the following cars sit there close to the rear of the caravan and wont pass - and then flash lights and close the gap when you try to move up the queue.  OK - Rant over Quote:
