Thank you Terry/Mike! Wastegate Rattle Fix worked for me as well! was getting it horribly on cold start and after warming up and when letting off the throttle (gurgly), after the firmware update and future use d=99, i barely heard a slight rattle on cold start and when touching the throttle and it pretty much disappeared after warming up! Much smoother and cleaner engine sound now with the dinan exhaust and downpipes!! Still can hear slight metallic sounds when releasing throttle or touching it slightly but that actually sounds normal, the cheap car rattle is gone!

Edit: I had new turbos at 48k for rattle and still had the rattle after brand new replacement turbos and it only got worse even with the new turbos, gone now finally at 65k!

Oh sweet. I wonder why BMW didn't think of this to fix the issue. Hoping it's not because it's doing more bad than good in the long run. But I don't see how it could really hurt anything and I trust Terry's judgement. Overall, great firmware update.

Yup sure did, and saved it to. Turbos have done 70k+ miles and have gradually gotten worse over the last 20k or so, so I knew it would be a long shot with the software fix.

Not fake i can take a vid of it. It now rattles almost constantly with value at 99. When I change it back to 0 less rattle is present. I don't know if there are different ways for the actuators to be out of spec or what. Just mad cause i closed the box and I'm to lazy to open it back up and change it back to 0. And when I say rattle I mean it made it like 50% worse.

That's almost how I felt as well. I'm not able to prove it, maybe it was just because I sooo hoped it worked and it didn't, but I actually think the rattle was even louder with the fix on. I have disabled it again.

Car is running just fine, besides rattle (and occasional smoke.....)

I had a slight rattle with my car as well and as soon as I loaded it up, saved all the new numbers for fuel, CPS, and futureuserID 99 and wow what a difference the car made. The rattle is GONE and honestly you can really hear the motor with NO rattleing whatsoever! Car sounds much cleaner. I thought I would never get rid of that sound!! Terry your a genius!!

If the experimental rattle fix didn't help just disable it. Why would you open DME box for updates? Didn't you leave the USB cable on top of the DME box under the black cover for instant access?

Nope I just tossed it back in. Its not a big deal to open it back up but like i said I seem to get lazy. I know the software works, but i guess different turbos are out of diff spec. Not sure why it would get louder. I would love no rattle so very much. Dealers are not assisting with the rattle. I take it in and they tell me they cant do anything unless ses light is on WTF! Oh well I love the tune and keep up the good work Terry!

If I don't have any wastegate rattle and I enable this could it cause any harm? Like over straining the system?

Also since this is an alpha version, does that mean there will be a final version of this and is it recommended for everyone to update to this?

Also what benefits does it have for a FBO using 93 oct (normally map 2) with no wastegate rattle?

I was wondering about that too. I have mine inside (through the glove compartment) and usually take logs with my laptop in the passenger seat

I'm baffled as to why some of you guys will not take the extra 10 minutes to run the USB cable into the glove box (instead of the ghetto USB setup). It literally takes 10 minutes to do!

That USB cable is so handy, way better than opening up the hood like we used to with JB3.

+1 all i gotta do is:

1.unlock car
2.open door
3.sit in driver seat
4.open glove box
5.plug in usb to laptop
6.DONE LIKE DINNER

Not running that USB cable through to the glove box is like pulling teeth. Your already in there might as well do it!

Hey Enrita,

So I have the JB4 but I run it only on Map4 so I guess I can't use the rattle fix. I barely hear rattle (only on stand still, or when in gear at <1500rpm with no throttle)..

what map are you using? I guess you use it to control meth flow and add some boost?
