For those who have used Raceland Downpipes with fitment issues...

This pertains to people that have actually used Raceland Downpipes (not heard of people on forums) and have fitment issues. How bad was the fitment? Like what all did you have to do? How long ago did you purchase them?

I just got a set, and some places wont even install them. Precision Sport Industries in Orlando charged my friend $135 for putting on his AR downpipes, but they quoted me $600 for my Raceland ones. I emailed Raceland, and asked them what there guarantee was on fitment, because most places want $300 for install. I dont want to pay that, only to find out they dont fit, and lose my money. I know there will be some @$$holes that will come here and say "Oh just go buy ARs then". Well cost of ARs + install is above my budget, unless you want to buy them for me.

Here was Raceland's response
"There is not any guarantee of fitment but I can assure you that since Raceland has changed management, we have not heard of a fitment issue with any of our claimed models. Where people have run into issues is using on a right hand vehicle or otherwise, non-claimed vehicle.

From what i have heard, raceland has an outstanding customer service.

those who suffered from poor fitment actually had their pipes switched to the newer ones and were given credit back for the shop labor hours.

He just responded again

We have not had any issues with fitment on the following models:

-2007+ BMW 335i (E90)
-2007+ BMW 335 Coupe (E92)
-2008+ BMW 135i Coupe (E82)

Our management changed just after the first of the year (2011). Let me know if you have any other questions.

Cody

This was their response on that

Unfortunately we do not assume responsibility for labor cost but we will cover any cost with the downpipe itself. We only carry the revised downpipe, so you shouldn’t have any issues.

So I guess everyone who had problems with fitment issues was on the old sets made under old management. Any of the revised sets that were made during 2011 should have no fitment issues..... according to Raceland.

Well I'm taking them to get installed on tuesday, so wish me luck.

I ordered mine around May of this year and didn't have any issues with fitment if its any consolation. I did have to buy new bolts and gaskets though as it doesn't come with them.

Do you remember what size bolts by any chance? Also, about how long did it take? Yes, your comment does make me feel better, lol.

I bought mine over a year ago, and they fit just fine. Maybe I got lucky, but I don't get all the hate

I bought mine last year and had them installed this spring. The guy that installed them was a good tech, but had never done ANY dp's on a 335. In fact, he had never worked on a Bimmer before doing my dp's. He just figured it out as he went and had them done in less than 2 hours! I have a 335 coupe non xi, btw. RL's are an outstanding value IMO.

Awesome for you guys having good luck with the old version. From all the forums I have read it was like 1 in 5 had problems with any Raceland pipes made over a year ago.

I believe you are trying to help people in your own way but seriously every thread about downpipes you have to say something and the whole thread goes to crap, I believe everyone knows that AR are the best and their work is amazing and flawless. The only problem is we are talking about 2 pipes, not made from gold, they are PIPES!!! They can not bring the dead back or make wine from water, they are way to expensive for what they are period. I think anyone trying to show everyone there is a cheaper option out there should be praised. Just because we drive expensive cars doesn't mean we have no common sense, they are pipes...period.

Man anyone that would be willing to pay $700 for 2 pieces of hollow metal I feel sorry for. It's still a piece of metal and as long as it fits it will do the job just as well as any other piece of metal. If the fitment of these newer pipes is good, then for $189 that is a hell of a deal. Same with PLM, every other platform I've dealt with, these damn pipes cost a at the very most half of that $700, this is BMW tax to the fullest.

I bought my pipes about 4 months ago... tried to install them myself

1) 1 of the pipes did not fit into the turbo housing
fixed this by grinding down the inner tubing with a grinder so it would fit
2) pipes were not long enuff
paid tow truck to bring my car to a shop and have the exhaust braked moved

over not to happy cost my 200 in pipes 130 in a tow and 350 for my exhaust system moved and brakets to be welded

not to happy

If the $700 piece of metal cost $135 to put in

and the $180 piece of metal costs $600 to put in?

Then what are you really saving here..you r paying the same amount and ending up with an inferior piece of metal, inferior welds, inferior quality..AND may not fit all togther..now for the DIYers..diff story..but the OP is not installing himself..

That was the point of my post but I guess no one bothered to consider this

If there is a that much of a discrepancy in install price, you need to find another shop...

$600 to install two small pieces of metal under a car...

I know a guy that can swap an engine for $1200.

Thats because it was over a year since they had installed a pair, and the ones they tried installing had fitment issues. I showed them the emails I received, and PSI said if they fit no problem then it will only take an hour and a half and be around $135.

1) Yeah, that could be a bit of a problem. Did you buy them directly from raceland?

2) I've looked through the forum, and people say that is with almost all DPs. You have to move the rest of the exhaust like an inch forward.

I don't remember as I had asked my friend to get OEM exhaust bolts from the dealer. Installation took about 5 hours and that is because it was our first time doing it, not because of fitment issues and whatnot. And yes, I did have to move the exhaust closer like an inch, which in fact makes it look better on a 135i as it sticks out a bit much. All in all, I would purchase a set again, but I don't think I would install downpipes ever again on a N54 lol.
