xDrive Tire Sizes?

Hey guys,
I've read serval threads at this point and can't come to a conclusion.
Will having a different rolling diameter screw with the xDrive system?

I'm picking up a 2013 335i xDrive M Sport with square 225/45/18's.

I'm looking at buying one of two sets of wheels with tires.

Set 1:
F- 235/35/19
R- 255/35/19

Set 2:
F- 245/35/19
R- 275/30/19

From what I can tell I'll have to buy different tires.

Set #1 is too far off for sure. Set #2 is close enough, probably will not have issues but still not an exact match.

Agreed.

Should be 235/35/19 and 265/30/19, or 235/35/19 and 275/30/19.

From using the tire calc I came up with
225/40/19
255/35/19

Agreed.

Should be 235/35/19 and 265/30/19, or 235/35/19 and 275/30/19.
These sizes are way off according to the calc.

225/45/18 - 265/30/19 = -2.821%
225/45/18 - 275/35/19 = +2.281%

Should I be comparing the original tire size to the new one and be <1%?
Or are you comparing the fronts to the rears?

Sorry, but these are for an F30, correct? They do use one profile larger than the E90/E92. 225/40/19 and 255/35/19 are standard specs for them on a set of 19s. I thought you were looking to put them on something like an E92.

You want to have the overall diameter with your wheels and tires within 3% of your factory specs, however what's most important for staggered tires on an AWD car is having the front and rear tires within 1% of each other. So if both front and rear tires are 2% smaller than stock, but they are exactly the same height, it's fine.

You compare front and rear tyres and difference needs to be under 1%.

I just need a quick recap/clarification.

The overall change in diameter wouldn't be such a big deal, as long as the front and rear were the same height, or very close?

Yes the reason it would be a problem is because the front and rear axles can't be moving at different speeds on an awd. 1% difference is what is considered safe. 245/35/19 and 275/30/19 are just over 1% so they are either close enough or could possibly cause some problems. If you really wanted those sizes you could probably get the front tires shaved so the diameters are closer.

I've got a 17x9 and 17x10 staggered setup I want to try to run. I was looking at running a 285/40 in the rear, and a 255/45 in the front. Planning to run very little to no stretch.

I would not recommend that sizing on the back of an F30. 19x9.5 ET40-45 is a pretty flush fitment as is. That's going to poke out past the fenders a bit.

Whatever tires you choose, you will be going through tires every 30-35k because the size differential from front to back does not allow you to rotate them. In addition, x drive and AWD tend to eat tires.

If you go with 19's, they will look cooler but they will cost more $$.

I would suggest a z rated tire vs a w or y rated. You may get more miles out of them.
