Q. re: purchasing PPK...

Do you know of any dealer in the NJ area who is discounting, or at least giving a fair deal, on PPK software? Seems like my local dealers (Circle and Open-Road) don't even know what I'm referring to. Thanks,

Steve Foster

getbmwparts.com has the kit for sale for pretty good pricing. Your local dealer should be able to install it for you.

Call around, you should have many BMW dealerships within 50 miles of you. Might be easier if you get the part # off BMW's site and give to them when calling, that way they can know exactly what you are asking about. Most will probably try and hit you up for a couple hours (or more) of install time, but BMW stated 1 hour install time when it came out.

Got mine at Union Park in Delaware for $700-ish when it first came out...it was discounted...plus, no sales tax. Otto's outside of Philly had decent pricing, as well. Don't forget to mention BMW Car Club Member, if you are one, that should count for a little discount, too.

My local dealer is running 20% off all online orders the past few months. You can even order it "installed" over the net at the discounted rate. I've got to imagine with all the competition so close by to you that at least one of them is doing the same.

Excuse the inexperience (dumb) question but I'm new to BMW brand. So the PPK is like a performance software up-grade? Can I buy it from any BMW dealership through the internet and have my dealership in Florida install it? Thank you in advance.

^^ that is correct. I bought my kit from Tischer and had my local dealer do the programming. They charged me 2 hours to do it (although I think this was a bit much).

What you get from Tischer is the activation code that will enable to dealer to re flash your car with the upgraded software (plus some stickers ) This is for the version 1 of the kit. Version 2 can also be bought this way but your install will be more involved and will take longer at your dealer.

Also remember, you MUST have the OEM auxiliary oil cooler for this. If you don't have it I have heard of people having it installed but now you are getting really $$$.

Thank you for the info. I have the M-Sport package with the increase speed limiter (150 mph) which I think it means its equipped with option code S840. Just have to verify this before I order it. New at modding BMW's and just want a little extra hp until the warranty expires. BMW PE will be next...

If you have M Sport with Option code S840, then you will have the factory oil cooler. If you would like to confirm though, I can check easy with the last 7 digits of your VIN#. Feel free to PM it over to me and I'll be glad to check.

^^^Thank you for offering to check. I had to go by the dealership yesterday and they confirmed I have the oil cooler. I know there are other tuner available but for the $$$ the PPK will work for now, cost $600-700 installed.
