Canada/EU free trade and BMW

News reports have indicated that in 2 years most tariffs on imported EU goods will be eliminated. Does anyone know if this includes the 6% tariff on BMW's imported from Germany?

I don't think it will, because they make enough money from it, the environmentalist will freak out over it (if it is removed), I am sure big ticket items will not or not by much, will be effected.

Yes, news reports seem to indicate all tariffs (duty) on European cars will be eliminated.

Global said on some of the the cars and tariffs would be adjusted on the higher end ones. So I guess time will tell.

It is going to be phased in over a number of years though. By the time the duty is fully eliminated, I'll be ready for a 991.2 GT3 RS !

Although the duty will be eliminated, do we expect the European brands to pass the savings onto the consumer or do you think they will be greedy and keep some/all for themselves?

Exactly what I was thinking.. there's no way we get the savings passed onto us. It's like when oil drops, or the Canadian dollar rises.. our goods (mostly) stay the same price, which is higher than it is in the USA.

It will mean that when I import my next Bimmer from the US I won't get dinged with a 6% tariff.

You're comparing a commodity's price which changes on a daily basis to how a car mfr sets their MSRP, which is set for like a whole year, and is based on all kinds of things, including the hedged exchange rate they use? LOL.
