new wheels - TPMS? - sensors on each wheel, or differential calculation from ABS?

Hi All,

I'm about to be fitting some winters, and am wondering what kind of TPMS the E91 uses, is it sensors in each wheel, or is it the ABS system monitoring over/under rotation?

im kinda hoping its the latter, so i dont have to spend 200quid on another set of sensors....

the tyres appear to have normal valves in them, which is why im thinking its the over/under rotation monitoring system.

TPMS runs from the ABS sensors.

The only monitoring systems that use discrete sensors are those that display individual tyre pressures.

Just remember to reset the TPMS when you put on the new tyres/wheels.

ummmm where did u get that info from?
the E9x platform uses individual sensors in each wheel, with receivers mounted in the wheel wells.
many people just deal with the dash light for winter, since you know when you have a flat on NON-rft winter tires pretty obviously

In the US, the system is TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System) with sensors in the valve stems. The system fitted to UK cars is FTM (Flat Tyre Monitor) that uses the ABS wheel speed sensors.

yea im assuming its the ABS system doing the work, as i just have the standard rubber valve stems in my current (standard) wheels

Works from rotational speeds of each wheel,and compares.A flat /soft tyre will have a different rotation from a good one and this is how it determines a fault.Works through the DSC system.
