Quite tempted to sell the 335d for £10k, bank it and pay monthly for the M3. In 2 more years the 335d will be worth about 6k once the new 3 series take hold so that's another 4k towards the M3 is it not?

In 2 years i would still have a car worth £6k less road tax , less servicing and repairs if I keep the 335. I am in the market for a £40k GTR but the M3 makes more sense and this is bargain motoring IMO.

What have I missed?

That sounds like "man maths" in action. Just get the M3, no excuses or complex reasoning required. I think it costs something like £12.5k over 2 years, you will never own it, but it is predictable costs to run a £50k car for 24 months. £12k is less than the deprecation on a new one if you were buying for cash/PCP/HP!!

if the 640d were still available at those introductory rates of last year I would rather of leased that as they have amazing road presence from my point of view.

I can't see the point of owning a car at the mo with all the deals around. I could buy the M3 with cash but it just makes no sense at all. None.

So when you see these deals such as the one you've linked to , Jimmylad, and it says "business users" - does that mean it is also available for a private contract and all you do is add 20% VAT?

Or is it strictly "business only, Joe Public needn't apply"?

I honestly don't know but will be asking that question. I have a business so that counts me in yet I only want the car for personal use. I only do 8k miles a year max privately.

I suspect I will have to insure it as a business insurance as well but as I said I only want it for personal.

My sensible side says "that's still a shedload of money with nothing left at the end." Except a big smile..........back to the petrolhead side.....

Your right, it is al lot for 2 years motoring, but when I factor in my 335d could be worth 4k less in 2 years, needs MOT's, servicing & anything else that could crop up. In my mind it's 12.5k less what the 335d will loose/cost over that same period which could be £5K & when you take the £5k off the £12.5k then that makes it £7.5k does it not ? Or have I got this bit wrong which is why I'm thinking it looks so good a deal.

£7.5K extra for 2 years in a brand new M3 (plus insurance & petol of course) seems like a no brainer.

Buying a 2nd hand 335d has lost me about £7k over 3 years depreciation wise plus a few expensive billls (not really down to the car - more down to the stealers living up to their name) so the M3 looks tempting.

I hope the people on here are right about M cars being in a different league

Don't be too hasty. M3 deals seem to be reducing by £50 a week at the moment. If you hold off until the end of March you might get a free one

Get it you wont regret it. Keep an eye on insuance though.not many will insure without a Tracer of some kind.

Spoke to the salesman....

car not available till July - could be a problem as that's plenty of time for a re think. Want it now/yesterday

heated seats extra (didn't take him more than a mnute to start the upselling process)

bluetooth to connect phone extra ( surely not ?)

Emailed me the spec sheet, options sheet & the proposal form (printed out & sat on my desk)

Pay a 2k deposit now to secure the deal if accepted.

Will email accountant tomorrow as I can put through my business but don't want it for business so it would probably be classed as "Drawings" in the eyes of the revenue but then no vat to reclaim either I suspect.

The Benefit In Kind tax on the M3 Frozen Edition, is £869 a month.

So, you would have to do it personally.
Best way is set it up in the company name, but pay the deposit on your card and then swap the direct debit to your account once you have signed on the dotted line.

I do this all the time.

Sort of shows what a joke BIK tax is on cars, when a car can cost £400 a month and the government think it is fine to charge someone nearly £900 for that car!!!
