D mode is for cruising... S is for fast fun but shitty gas mileage. Find the balance based on your driving habits and routines. I personally love it but also realize it's not perfect and it's not for everyone.

Its been four days and I am liking the flash but I am having a few small issues.

1. I live in a hilly area and many times I have to really mash the peddle to go uphill because the car is in 6th gear at 40 mph. This results in more gas being used, if you live in a very flat area you will get awesome MPG but if you don't sucks for you. Also don't like how I tried to gas through a yellow light and the car became real jerky when it went from 6th to 4th lol.

2. I tried to switch to sport mode but the car went into manual mode instead, I tried to switch it back and forth and finally it went into sport mode. Any idea?

BTW, I used to have the terrible shifting where the car would feel like its choking after installing the JB4 but the alpina flash makes it very smooth. No harsh shift in the cold morning either.

Shout out to Wedge Performance for hooking me up with the Alpina flash last night. "D" is EXACTLY how I want the trans to shift while cruising around town; the earlier shifts are not a problem if you have a car that's flashed, given the extra/earlier power on tap. When wanting to take control myself, "M" mode feels amazing!

Thanks again Ken! This community is lucky to have you!

Ok so for those of you that have this done, how similar is the down shifting to a DCT? Does the software still limit how high in the rpms you can down shift in certain gears? I know going from 2nd to 1st in M mode at low speed I think the max I've seen down shifting with the stock software is like 3500rpm.

To be honest, I never down shifted from 2nd to 1st in M mode... except if driving at very low speed e.g. 5 km/h

Which makes sense. I'm just curious if you're cruising at 120km/h and you go from say 4th to 2nd, will it actually allow you to rev that high like a 6MT or DCT would?

Yes... The one thing I found while tracking my car was I didn't have to wait to down shift. I could hit 140 on the front straight, then hard on the breaks while hitting the required gear without issue before late cut in on turn 1 to hit the back side of the apex then another late quickly turn back to make the exit to turn 3 as straight as possible. For the most part, you don't see 1st gear on a track, ever... Picture below is rounding 4a.

Wedge, approx how high into the rpms have you been able to downshift with the flash?

So why is this incompatible with the pre 03/2007 cars - is there a physical difference with the transmissions in these cars, or is it a software limitation due to the different OBD protocol they use?

You need a valvebody swap, the Mechatronics are different and the flash won’t take.

He is using a tune that hijacks the CAN. It allows you to do all sorts of cool stuff with the gagues since you have full control over it. One of the selling points of piggybacks for sure.

Bummer. You'd think the the E92 at least they would've used updated components from the get go rather than building the things for all of a few months before 03/2007 and then changing things.

Thanks for the info.

ZF makes the transmissions, not BMW. If it wasn't ready it wasn't ready. MY 2007 vehicle production probably started 9/2006. Stuff gets upgraded all the time.

So are you guys resetting adaptations via the 30 sec throttle while start on after the alpina flash? Or is the adaptations already reset?
