I understand that they might see the DP's.. but most of them are slow, and it would take a lot for them to open up your ECU compartment and check for any piggybacks. But yes, I really wished they would come out with actual fixes that are installed on the o2 sensors.. but untill then, I will be running Terry's fix..

You give techs a lot of credit. They're working the clock for profit, not trying to spot mods for the benefit of the dealer/mfr. To go get the shop foreman and initiate some sort of recourse would be money out of their pocket. I used to wrench on BMW and Benz (and Rolls) many years ago.

are you saying that they wouldnt get paied for checking up on your ECU etc etc if it werent for the routine check up? I used to work for a dealership and I remember that the techs would flip out when the valet boys would take a long time to bring them their cars..

btw, is that a GTO in your avatar? (sorry don't know muscle cars) looks mean as hell though.

I'm pretty sure I read BMW was giving technicians a bonus/commission for finding tampered ECU's. Correct me if I'm wrong.

that would be low... way low... I guess it would benefit BMW since they would have a log of our "ECU mod" so if something comes up related to warranty, they can be gay and refuse service because we tampered with the ECU...

Are you serious or just interested in feeding the fear factor?
I think it would be better if you can provide some evidence that you are correct.

No, I am serious; I do believe it was stated in a thread they were getting paid to 'blacklist' VIN numbers that ECU's were 'tampered' with. I think O-cha can chime in on this.

I just got the Riss Racing DPs and then I noticed the rattling sound after install. I had the DPs on for a week or so and had them taken off. I should get my car back today from the dealer. DPs back on ASAP.

Vapor, where did you get them installed and how much?

I'm just concerned about a tech note saying something about the DP's that may come back to bite me later

As long as your aren't a moron you can install the tunes without making a mess of the ecu....

Also, here is another option.....

Do you own oil changes! As long as you keep reciepts and everything you should be fine. Also, if you want to go to the dealership for oil changes, taking the DP's out every 15000 miles is not that big of a deal....

The electrical circuit can be restricted at the source instead of at the ecu.
Yeah, that's how all the O2 sims I've ever used are made. It seems silly to do it in the ECU box.

I got the DPs through Anthony and he referred me to his installer for $200. I suggest calling Riss Racing if you want a good local install.

I feel oil changes should be ok with pipes in but anything for a mechanical problem, then I'm taking em off.

For $200, I'd take them out for anything more than an oil change, like you said.

Incentives and compensation do drive behavior, but I would be speculating as to whether the techs are in some way rewarded for finding tuned ECUs? And if they did offer the reward, what do you think the tech would do? They would claim the book time and NOT perform the check! There's no way to say at what time a tuner was added. If they only get paid if they actually find one and report it, then they are going to "invest" their time in cars that are more likely to have it - racing rims, carbon fiber, blah, blah, blah...

Yes, that is my GTO in the pic. It is a '67. Have two actually and the other is actually my favorite as it is a 4 spd...just need to finish putting it back together after a frame up resto over the past couple of years. I'll take "mean as hell" as a complement - thank you!
