P3 vent boost gauge.

Sorry if this is the wrong section but not 100% sure where to put this. But i am considering getting the P3 vent boost gauge. My question is that since i have a Cobb tune i use the OBD2 port to install and uninstall my tune, will installing this boost gauge not allow me to do this anymore? From the looks of the install guide it looks like the boost gauge caps the port so that only it uses it? Sorry if this seems like a silly question just want to know for sure before i buy it.

Thanks

P3 gauge reads boost via a vac line that you will tap into your DV lines. The OBD cable used with the P3 is to show CAN data such as IAT, RPM, coolant etc. When you need to flash with COBB just unplug P3's cable.

fyi once you run the obd cable how p3 wants you, unplugging the cable is the biggest pita.

Unlike the earlier models, the current P3 gauges provide more info than boost (timing, egt, iat, coolant temp., etc.) and must remain plugged into the OBDII port.

However, I regularly unplug it to use the port for other purposes and have never had any difficulty doing so.

Not sure why the other poster finds it a PITA.

+1

If you want a more permanent solution, you can get a splitter cable like this one : http://www.obd2cables.com/products/o...y-to-db9f.html

P2 plugs into your current OBD port, P1 replaces your current port and P3 connects to the gauge.

It is PIA, cause I have to remove two screws that hold the panel down in order to remove P3 connector. Splitter may be a way to simplify this, but it means routing your OBD connector elsewhere..

You have an old version. The new connector cable has no screws. You just unplug it and you plug in your OBD accessorie.

No, there is enough wiggle room to remove the OBD connect from the P3 without removing any screws or paneling. It takes an extra second or two to remove but it can be done.

To reinstall the OBD for the P3 takes an extra 3 seconds. I find tilting it from the side and then pushing it over works best.

I won't call it a PITA but it does take just a little extra effort.

It's doable, but is a little pain.. I have learned to deal with it..

I tried, but afraid to break connector pins, or damage wiring..

You can shave the interior plastic trim piece a bit around where the connector is. That will give you more room to move things around.

Also, Ive heard that you dont have to tap into the lines for boost, you can just use the OBD2 port, is that true/any disadvantageous to this?

Also, does anyone know the month changeover (not year as they list) in order to get OBD2 boost values for 2007 mfg year cars (335i specifically)

The OBD2 reading works fine for the N55 but tapping is recommended for N54 for accurate results.

OP,

Do you want all read outs?

If you just want boost, I just found one the other day that's on my wish list now. I was looking at the p3 also, but I don't like the port always open and want my port free. Plus I like this OEM look.

Ultimately a onscreen gauge cluster would rock.

I don't understand what you mean by "port open." If you mean that the little port cover plastic missing, the cover goes back on over the obd port with the P3 connected. As far as OEM look, everyone that sat in my car thought the P3 was a special feature of a 335is, I have to tell most people that I added it...even my wife, who bought it for me for an Xmas present...but she's Korean, rear view mirrors are a new concept to her
