Any idea where I could get one? I think it might be worth it to grab a t-case which is possibly a stronger version to see what the changes were and if they can be implemented to your t-cases somehow.

Thanks again!

I hope to see the other 2 t-cases next week. I'll update as to the progress.

Jack,

Thanks for getting the ball rolling, can you snap some pics whenever you start the tear down, I'm very curious to see the build quality of the at300.

Thanks,

I would too but with the longevity that some people have been having I expect it to be of pretty high quality for a stock product.

Thanks all! I hope to see them this week. I'll take a lot of pictures and share my findings to see if there is anything that can be done to improve them.

If anyone has broken one, please let me know what happened. I would imagine as these cars are now slowly getting out of warranty that more people will be modifying them and breaking more. I would like to see if we can come up with options to keep reliability up for those who plan to up the power a lot.

Thanks again!

Jack

I plan on 400AWTQ , Not sure if that's grenading t-case territory or not, But i'm sure it wont like it. At-least not the way i drive the thing.

There are plenty of people that run 400+ awtq (including me) without any problems so far.
I don't launch it from a dig at 4000RPM so yes, that could break it if you do it all the time.I know at least one person has done it several times without any adverse effects that he knows of.

Yes, it's the shock of launch with an aggressive clutch and lots of traction and/or the shock of wheel hop that's going to kill it. I doubt the power level will be a significant factor. I already know I can spin a front Michelin all-season smoothly with no issues.

Ya, I cut 1.6 - 1.8 60s at the strip with about 50 runs under my belt on pss tires. So far so good. Just changed the transfer case fluid about 2 months ago and there were no particles and the color seemed pretty good.

Knock on wood, don't want to jinx myself.

But 4000rpm launches is where all the fun is at!

Agreed! Ive done really hard brake boost launches too, and while my car doesnt seem to be any worse for the wear... I've been taking it easy until I see something available to give me the peace of mind I need to abuse her the way Ive always loved to...

Nothing like a launch that throws the change in the ash tray around the cabin

My technique until I get a 2-step from Cobb or a WOTBox is to floor it from idle at the first yellow and launch on the third yellow. According to the logs I'm at about 4800rpm after WOT for 1 second with the clutch in.

Joining the group-buy guys, looks like it may fall short but I'm in anyway.

I ended up keeping my 335xi because the wife likes it so much. I doubt I'll race it again, but I will likely get the Cobb installed on it and a pro-tune for E85. If things don't progress much then I may get back into this myself when I get my second car (E39 M5), and run progressively more power and traction until something breaks.

A couple of notes for those non familiar with my car:
- Ran 490whp / 550wtq on nitrous + meth + race gas (no nitrous in 1st gear though, no point really without more traction)
- 350+ brake boost launches from 1st gear
- 100+ brake boost launches from 2nd gear, then the clutch packs for that gear were done, 2nd gear launches in the 335xi are NOT recommended by me for this reason
- Power transfer to the front wheels is a bit jerky when engaging at full power (rear wheels spin briefly before all 4 start spinning)
- Ran Pilot Sports initially, but just on tune only, all high power runs were done on Conti DWS, with this setup I hit a 1.57 60' time with copious amounts of wheelspin
- Wheelspin in my setup may be what saved my drivetrain from breaking, according to all the drivetrain experts I talked to traction is the #1 killer of drivetrain components
- No transfer case issues, or front diff issues thus far (knocks on wood)

I have Michelin all seasons right now and was thinking about the Conti DWSs for the next set. How are they handling-wise compared to the Michelins?

I believe the group buy did fall short and the money is being refunded, but that doesn't seem to be an issue for Jack to get started. If we end up needing to pay for something we'll need to try again.

Correct, I don't believe we need this group buy as Jack has already started?

Conti DWS ride great, but they are a step down in terms of handling from the Pilot SS the car came with. Not sure how they stack up against other all-season tires but I've had no complaints and even with all my abuse the tires have great tread left on them.
