lol!! I actually didn't find this out until a last night...I basically supported the motor by the pan with a jack, then unbolted the engine mounts from the subframe, lifted motor up enough to get motor mounts out, unbolted passenger side motor mount from motor and sub frame dropped 1"...25 min job tops. The hook is useful for aligning the motor mounts left to right. I would have rather used a harbor freight engine support if I would have found out about the tow hook first lol!!

Use new studs (Get 20-25 incase you have to take manifold off, or threads get damaged ect):
Here is bolt pattern I used to get manifold on evenly, I ujsed the tradioutional way (star) and gasket got squished (slightly nothing bad): Way to take stud off nut without hurting threads, use bolt penatration liquid first: Use #45 Torx socket...a 11mm socket gets stuck most of the time on the nut: There is access from the top on a lot of the bolts: Here is how the heat-shields are placed once on the turbos are installed, start to put these on BEFORE tightening manifold: Front turbo: Rear turbo: Before installing front turbo loosen induction tube for more clearance. After front tubo is installed connect vaccum line to actuator, if you wait you will be sorry lol!! Make sure induction tube is flush on turbo after: Wait to connect these lines until both turbos are installed: Front turbo on!!! While rear turbo is loose conect these lines together (Once bolted there is no play in the line):[/B] Oil line can be very tight, basically hard to hold in place with gasket wheile lining up holes, bolt in one side with the gasket on....then slid gasket over and tighten the other side: Top coolant lines can not be fully installed untill turbo is instalklled fully, put coolant line end lined up with holes (top right corned on front turbo and top left of rear) and when turbo is bolted down it will push line in)....Sorry couldnt get a pic.

Its much easier to put both drains on the turbos on the bench. They install easily in the block as you are putting turbos in. This will help eliminate leaks and make life easier then fighting it in the car.

Had a big hassle that was a stupid simple mistake, Well I figured out why the induction tube did not fit....I installed the gasket on the turbo 1st...induction tube pinched the gasket, it deformed and tube could not be put on. I did not notice this because my hands could not fit back there (it actually felt like it was bound )...I found out because my AEWESOME wife (who has actually helped with this install) saw this...Ii wasted 6 ours on a damn gasket LOL!!
NEVER put the gasket on the turbo...install it in the tube first!

Awesome news man. Glad that my sometimes short responses were helpful, been crazy hectic over the holidays! Nevertheless glad all is together and feeling strong.
It is awesome there are those adventurous types like yourself willing to bite off a project like this, and then also document and share your findings with everyone else. Those doing any turbo swap from this day forward will find this a sweet resource. Great thread. Rob |
