I was actually going to try it I want to learn my car inside and out. Always smarter to invest in your brain other than someone's pockets

+1 Excellent attitude. Plenty of threads on this here and on other boards, it is not hard at all. Some quirks setting up the software (free) and you'll need a cable/laptop.

Once you get this you'll also have software and so forth to do diagnostics, plus can code other features into your car. Look in the Coding sub section here.

PS: hope your car is 3/07 or later build, IIRC prior to that will not work.

What need I do with my 10/06 build 07 E90 to make it ready to accept an Alpina flash?

I have read you need to swap in a later valve body and TCU/MCM, then flash. There are some folks here who have done it, I have no direct experience.
