Blackstone Manual Transmission Fluid Report

Just had my manual transmission fluid analysed on my 2007 328xi at 75,000 miles. This is the first time the fluid had been changed. Shifts are a bit smoother now... and I think it added 10HP . Had to buy the fluid from BMW since they would only sell it to my shop by the drum ( 50 gal. @ $15/half qt. = $6k ), yet had no issue selling it to me... Anyway, it cost me $63 ( after CCA discount ) for a container with 2 liters of MTF-1 fluid and $45 for the change. Less than a regular oil change at the dealer!

So based on universal wear rate the fluid was ok.

Thanks for posting! I really value seeing other oil reports. Seeing this supports my rational for wanting to change my MT sooner than later. Thanks again!

I'm not sure more than double the wear of the average is a "good" thing (see aluminum, iron & copper). Blackstone even mentioned the oil was low wear challenged and that the transmission internals took a hit from the longer run on the oil.

So for some reason I never got notified that anyone responded to this post...

Anyways, here's a pic of original fluid (left) and the new stuff.

Thanks for posting, OP.

It should have been LT-2 if not LT-3 as factory fill though, no? That would throw off Blackstones "averages" and expectations for viscosity results.

There were three different transmissions that year and mine took LT-2. You're right, not sure why it says MFT-1. I'm sure I wrote LT-2 on the slip. Is it possible they choose to call it that for their purposes?

I dunno. Maybe it's worth following up with them and having your report/analysis repeated showing your fluid against actual LT2 instead.
