Painted my stock rims
For a few months I was pricing and considering new rims with tires. I liked a few but couldn't see spending 2k on wheels and tires considering my expenses are already high. I figured what the hell, paint it and if it is terrible, then I will see about dropping money into a new set.
It took me ~16 hours to clean the baked on brake dust out from behind the wheels and sand them down. More hours on taping the tires and making a make shift spray booth along with the actual painting process itself. My only screw up was trying to rush through the painting and clear coating so I could get to work on time. I had to heat the shed up to 60+ in order for "best results" Anyway, at first I wasn't crazy about the results. I had some drips that I fixed as best as I could and some base coat that wasn't exactly even but I left it the way that was. It's taking some getting used to and I am starting to like it more now from a distance to take in the full look. I liked the silver but every car has that from factory. This is the before and after, although I am not happy with the final result since I am so anal and kick myself for not going slower, it isn't so bad. |

Sounds like you had an experience. A lot of people may disagree with me but why not just try out plasti dipping them? If you don't like it you can always revert back to the stock color. Seems like this is a more permanent settlement for you unless you wanted them this way

I'm not a fan of plasti dip other than the grill ir small parts. Although people love it, I am not into it.
I figured put the time in and try to get it right and hopefully it will be permanent. |

Nice job! You should have documented all the different steps you took as well, to really show before, during, and after. Any close ups of the finished product?

A nice setup doesn't have to cost you 2k. I had 20+ sets and I had wheels that were 600 bucks with perfect tires.
Craigslist...or forum members. IMO that doesn't look right. I don't like that theme and looks better before. I always think its the less classy way to go. |

Well if we all had the same opinion and likes....we would all have the same car, same color, same mods. So to each his own.
Its also not black, it is graphite. To VMR, yes I have pics of the process. all the intense work and you still get put downs but that's ok, like I said, I am different, 43, on a budget. I have a guy at work that paid for cheap rims, the one broke on a pot hole so you get what you pay for. I appreciate the honest opinions though. Friends and family will say its nice and not give their honest opinion. Last edited by MrQuickR1; 03-29-2013 at 05:04 PM.. |
