Question invoice vs. msrp (not that much difference)

I am obsessed with getting a good deal, but when you actually calculate it..

the difference in monthly payment between, say 500 over invoice, and 500 under msrp is only about $40 month.

am I wrong? All this "negotiation" stress really doesn't yield that much of a savings...

$40 a month over a short 2 year lease is almost $1k.. That seems like a lot to me.

And if your monthly payments end up being 400-600 range getting $40 off a month is like getting 2+ monthly payments deducted...

For some, negotiating is fun. My friend loves getting every penny he can out of them by paying as little as possible.

For me it stress, for him its fun, different strokes I guess.

You don't want to be a "payment" shopper. The dealers will want to talk payments, but you need to talk final price and interest rate (or money factor if leasing). Like the previous post said, $40 per month over a few years is big money.
