I checked your part number:

Only together with ULF

, refer to
diagram, USB/audio interface
A supplementary cable adapter is
needed to connect an iPod,
see diagram 651796.
For vehicles with Professional radio

Its for a ULF, which has a 54 pin connector
Combox does 6FL, aux has nothing to do with 6FL, it is present in cars without 6FL (like in this car Sam in working on and on my car which has been upgraded to combox and 6fl now) based on 6fl or not it's connection differently doing exactly the same thing.

Few things to clear.
1- I would really like to get an OEM cable to get it fitted. Any pointer with the correct part number? - Done
2- I would love to do a bit of DIY but never made the fakra / LDV connector socket, so I will be useless. - Dont bother, fakra hsd connectors are hard to get
3- I do not require coding 6FL. As that is for older MULF. - You do require coding.. 6FL applies to both MULF and Combox.. MULF and combox behave the SAME for the USB and AUX..

???

Those connectors are called HSD connectors,(same behaviour as USB)
LVDS is pretty similar, but only used behind the CIC for the CID..

Correct, but if you code 6FL, AUX goes over MOST, unless you code it via your TRC/MAN.

You left me in suspense. Its 2:15 and my brain does need some glucose.
I will look into TRC file. If you read it before I figure out, kindly let me know what to change.

All of you who contributed to this thread, THANKS and deepsrd.

Well, I am not sure what you want to do here..

Do you want to keep the current AUX? (which is directly connected to the back of the CIC), If so, only then you need to modify the individual setting in the CIC..

My recommendation would be to do it the OEM way.. because:
1. You anyway have to buy the USB socket, buy the one with AUX in it..
2. You anyway have to wire the USB cable, wire the AUX with it.. :-)
3. Also, getting the switchable one as mentioned in the parts list, makes it easier to connect 6NF at a later date..

That way, when you VO code the CIC to 6FL, your current AUX is just disabled, and you can just tuck it away , hidded under the centre console.. it would not affect you in any way..

I will dig out the AUX thing..

Deep
I am unable to understand the wiring for aux in.
If I go with the method you mentioned, Do I connect the current aux in wire to new plug (usb with aux in) or will I have to run new wires for aux in to combox?

Or are you saying that aux in becomes irrelevant as ipod can be connected to usb directly? And there is no need for aux in? And leave it unplugged? Thanks.

OK..

AUX without 6FL:
This is directly connected to the back of the CIC. 4 wires from the centre console AUX connects to the quadlock, and directly feeds the AUX audio to the CIC.

AUX with 6FL:
The AUX (again 4 wires)is connected to the 26pin connector on the combox from the centre console. FActopry fitted 6FL comes this way.. When you code the 6FL to your CIC, it will then deactivate the direct AUX and will get the AUX from the combox via the MOST.

If you go with what I suggested, yes, you will have to run new wires from the centre console to the combox.. The curernt AUX will just become inactive.

USB directly connects from USB port to combox via the HSD cable.

Since you have got telematics combox can you tell on the double joint fakra connector (extreme right with purple tab on it) which one is gsm antenna and which one is backup aerial. I mean within that double connector is left one for gsm or the right one? there must be some clue there. It is not given on ISTA and nowhere documented, can you please help here.

Just chiming in what I know.. (might need to confirm)

The rightmost is GSM, and the one besides it is the GPS aerial..

Is there a way to check it? More than happy to check it.

Update: I asked the owner to follow what deepsrd mentioned. We rang the dealer who insisted that we had the right kit but wrong instructions. None of the parts was in stock (tried different dealers) and the earliest they could do was Wednesday.

Owner has taken the decision to fit the 6FL kit since the car was stripped for it and he did not want to wait. Also, dealer insisted that kit was correct and they were not going to take it back.

With the new instructions, things were clear therefore kit was fitted. Coded 6FL and hi-fi (upgrading the sound system to BSW 1 upgrade + 600/6 and BSW sub upgrade).

I guess I am having issues to read combox (media box in NCS expert). So coding CIC alone to 6FL did not work. USB icon appeared but usb hub failed to connect to iphone. It is only charging it which means it has power.

Going to update the daten files tomorrow and try again.

I am attaching the new instructions as I could not find them.

Any pointer to coding would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Did you try reading the combox having the kit bypassed from MOST loop. What is the problem when you are trying to read the combox?

Also you shouldn't be coding anything in the combox as 6FL is being handled by a separate control unit. I can't say for sure if this arrangement will work as I haven't seen any 6fl kit alongside combox overlapping functionality. I wonder how will cic address where to get audio from when usb icon is selected on the menu?

Why not try connecting the black usb cable (should be same 6fl kit) into combox black port and see if usb icon comes alive.

Combox and tcu don't have separate gps connector as they get gps info on most from cic. Read it somewhere that one is gsm and another is gsm backup, don't know which one is which.

All done and dusted.
I can report that CIC and combox need 6FL coding and 6FL worked all good.

This really is a great guide!! I've been wanting to do this for a while, but have always been put off by the fact that previous guides left the aux socket redundant

My understanding so far:

Parts required
61119137935 4-channel HSD USB Cable with Black Connector, from Combox to USB/AUX
61319189175 USB/AUX Connector (it must be this switchable one to provide audio in over aux and audio from Baseplate over the same wires!!
61136954554 Empty 6-Pin Connector to wire audio lines from Baseplate and to Combox
5m 3 pair shielded cable

Instructions
AUX combox wiring - pins 22(shield) , 23(Left) , 24(Right), 10 (ground).
Black USB cable from black connector on combox to USB in the centre console

Coding
Code $6FL to CIC and Combox (Media) modules on NCS Expert

Question - could someone explain the aux wiring a bit more please - I get how to connect it to the combox. It's just the connection to the USB/ Aux connector. Do you just use the 6 contacts from 61136954554 for the wiring at the combox and USB/ Aux connector?

You use the all 6 contacts if you are doing the ˆNF with the 6FL..

If you are wiring ONLY the 6FL, use only 3 contacts from the 6 pin connector..
Just wire the following:

6pin connector:
1 - AUX-Left
3- Gnd
4 - AUX-Right

to Combox:
23 - AUX-Left
10- Gnd
24 - AUX-Right..

Done! :-)

Great!! glad that it all works..

Just one question though..
Did you use the USB Hub? the Combox does not use the HUB, as it is directly connected to the centre console..
Did it work straight out of the box?

Since this thread will help many others, it would be ideal to list the connections for 6NF.

I am under the impression that you'd require FSC code for 6NF. Is that correct?

Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

BMW 6FL kit came with the USB hub and aux in socket. It worked out of box after coding.
