txt messages read from iphone 4

is it possible to do that for 2011 328i? or just the 2012?
I installed "BMW Connected" to my iphone 4 but it wont connect to my car. each time i go to check connection it says connection fail. my phone is connected to the USB and its charging on the iphone screen so i know its connected. and it makes sounds on the speakers when i lock and unlock the screen

is there any app that will work?

For some odd reason the BMW cable doesn't work with the combox...you have to use the apple cable...however, text would still not work with the iphone. Waiting on iOS 6.0

Apple hasn't supported the needed protocol but I understand that IOS 6 which is due out in the fall supports the whole BMW office with email and text including reading out to you.

Thanks for the heads up, I am new to BMW - just picked up a 12 328i hardtop and couldn't figure out why no messages were Not coming in.

Right now messages are just for sending google map info from computer to car

Apple wont be compatible for that function. Until 6.0 release

I am running it now, and l get email & SMS on my iDrive, can view while stationery or play while driving.

The first thing to happen is you have to update your Blutooth firmware in your CIC, you can download it from BMW here, put it on a USB Stick formated with Fat32, use the USB socket in centre consol, select update in iDrive.

Then you have to load IOS 6 Beta 2 into your iPhone.

Last, it only works with iPhone 4S, iPhone 4 does not support MAP.

That's not correct. I have iPhone 4 running iOS6 and messages are working OK.

And, btw, current iOS6 status is Beta 3.

Iphone 4 does not have MAP. Only the 4S has it. If you getting message on iDrive from your iphone 4 that is strange as no one else is?

Are you getting emails?

ALso, do you have BMW Connected, if you do then that mybe the reason why you are getting messages with the iPhone 4. What I was saying is if you don't have BMW Apps or Connected Drive then the 4S with IOS 6 will give you mail & messages on iDrive.

I'm getting sms and emails, both via Bluetooth, so no BMW Connected involved. iPhone 4 will get MAP with iOS6 as well and I don't have an idea what are others doing wrong

A lot of forum's had said that the iPhone 4 cannot do map, I cannot check because I have a 4S, but if yours is working then that is great news for all Iphone 4 owners.

Just updated to IOS 6 Beta 3

Sometime this week I am getting 6NR code so BMW Apps can work, I have all the hardware installed just not the code & the FSC which we now have.

The BMW Connected App is only useful if you bought the "BMW Apps" option with the car ($250 plus installation and programming).

is there any way to install BMW app after receiving the car. the dealer told me that unless you ordered it from the begining, I wont be able to install it after.

Please contact forum vendor BimmerTech for details on how to retrofit/activate BMW Apps in your particular car. I am the BimmerTech installer in South Florida.

I just updated to IOS 6 Beta 4 to test this out with no luck (iPhone 4). I have a CIC retrofit with bluetooth enabled, but don't have BMW Apps or Combox retrofit. Are these needed for text messages, I thought it was just emails that you needed it for?

You need a combox to read messages/sms.

All this MAP stuff only applies to the F30 model and up, correct? I have a 2009 335 LCI, with the harddrive iDrive, and I hear I am pretty much out of luck because my iDrive isnt the version with BMW Office or whatever?
