How are you reading the injector values in the engine? Is it possible to read them without taking off the hold down bracket?

No, it appears from the parts catalog and TIS that the new injectors should come with seals, but not the decoupling element (why not?). There should be a sleeve over the injector seal on the new injector. The TIS states that neither the seal nor the decoupling element should be reused. The protective sleeve should be removed immediately before installing the injector, and no longer than 10 minutes prior to installation. It states that the teflon seal will swell on its own. Seals are considered "used" after one heat cycle of the engine.

I was able to read all of the numbers on the side of the injector after removing the engine cover. There's a wing that sticks opposite the fuel inlet with 2 pairs of numbers. There is also a 2D bar code printed on the side of the injector.

Do the new injectors get installed with new decouplers...want to make sure the dealer gets it right.

James,

I am not sure what you mean by teflon seal (number 9 below?). There is a black seal at the injector needle. That cannot be replaced.

Here is the diagram from realoem:

The decoupling element I am talking about is number 10. This is the item that was missing on my injector 1 and this should be there.

Yes, my new injector came with a protective aluminium sleeve which I removed right before I installed the injector and decoupling element. In my opinion, the decoupling elements should be installed with the new injectors.

In the Bentley manual they go through a process using special tools to replace the Teflon seal near the tip of the injector.

I'm not sure if you can buy this separately or not.

The decoupling elements should be replaced and installed with your new injector you are correct.

You can buy it separately. I've done it.
It's a pain in the ass to change. I had to soak it in warm water to get it to stretch.
Curious what their tool looks like

If you're saying it's a pain I'm scared. I've seen the DIY's you have done.

I'm guessing this was to clean the injector tips?

I was replacing an injector due to a misfire I had. I purchased a slightly used injector which already had the seal on it. I had to cut the old seal off.

The seal looked fine out of the old one , however, I'm guessing you bought a new one that doesn't have the seal ?

I bought a new Injector and it came with the seal. I'm all good on that injector.

I was wondering if there was carbon build up on the others as the one I pulled was pretty bad.

Was thinking I may pull the others and clean them / replace seals.

I'm having performance issues in higher rpm's bit of a stutter.

Guys guys,

The new injectors have those seals on them. No need for special tools. Just make sure you order a decoupling element for each injector you are replacing...

If they have the seals, leave em. Its not worth the risk damaging them trying to replace them.

Now a random thought.
What would happen if we purposely put a higher or lower number in the values?

Let's say, If we put a lower flow value (2nd value) would the ecu turn that injector up to keep up? Would this somehow make that one cylinder run richer?

Yes, I believe the concept is that each injector flows a certain amount of fuel at a given pressure. The calibration process evens the fuel flow for all cylinders. If one of the calibrations is off enough, that cylinder would either be richer or leaner than the others. I am thinking this is what may have happened to me. But in my case one cylinder ran leaner...will know soon.

The TIS states you are not to touch or clean the injector tips.

Correct! I just re-read the Bentley manual. It says you can clean the combustion residue from the cylindrical part of the injector tip but not to touch the tip.

I may just replace all 6 with new and be done with wondering about these.

I had one leaking already I wonder if the others are on the way out.

Using XP Mode in Windows 7 64 works fine, I used this to code my car.

Just need to download XP Mode, if you have Windows 7 enterprise/professional/ultimate.

They also have tons of links and guide on setting up DIS/GT1

SSS = Progman, and if your car has been updated by ISTA, I wouldn't worry about messing with SSS/Progman, because it won't work with the car.

bad idea, just code them right, the dme will take care of the rest.
