Exhaust issue? How long do they last?

Hi

The car is 6 years old now and over the last couple of days I have noticed that it is making a slightly louder noise (for a diesel) that normal on tick over. When starting it from cold, I noticed a slight vibration under the clutch region. It's an auto, so it's not actually the clutch.

Could this be the exhaust or is it likely to be someting else?

Any thoughts anyone?

Thanks.

It's on tick over, but if I give it the minimum amount of throttle it goes. It's just that there was a vibration, as mentioned, under where the clutch would be.

Just speaking to the BMW Dealers and they said that they are not really getting any e90's in for replacement exhausts.

Maybe, it's just a loose bolt or something?

I've just had a bracket replaced due to vibration. I actually thought it was the auto box. It sounded very rough when cold but went away once warm but had this chattering sound on kick down. Get it on some ramps or high kerb and give the brackets a wiggle.

The "fault" seems to be intermittent; suspect its probably me being paranoid, but it's in for a sevice and MOT on Monday, so they can have a look.

Thanks to the people who tried to help.

from yesterday it seems that I also have a strange "vvvzzzz" noise that is produced for only 1"-2" during normal acceleration from 0 to 10 mph.
would it be a broken bracket from exhaust?

@ wallmk2: what were your symptoms? and if you could please tell me the cost of the part and from where did you get it since I am thinking something around 10-15GBP, don't know if there is a p/n for these parts..

yes, mainly the unleaded vehicles have issues due to the water that is being produced from catalytic converters...

The noise that I am hearing is like something being synchronised during normal acceleration from a stop. it sounds like a plastic part from the left side of the engine. it is really weird and I will go to check all the brackets of the exhaust underneath the car (I know they are not plastic but this is the first thing that is coming to my head now, a broken bracket) .
