My e92 intro/accident with an e93

Soooo before I was even able to make an introduction thread here, I got in an accident last night. And outta all cars to hit me it was a same sparkling graphite coupe as mine, just a vert instead. I just bought the car a week and a half ago from BMW Northwest - 2008 335xi SGM on black leather, fully loaded all packages/navi/6spd, and I'd already put in a jb4, dci, subwoofer, and other minor cosmetics. And had just got the windows tinted that day.

As for the accident - the other guy must've been blind...I wish he didn't drive a bmw almost the same as mine so I could dislike him more.

We were at the intersection of 5th Ave and Mercer St in lower Queen Anne/downtown, where the Science Center, Gates foundation, and QFC all are. I was driving north on 5th and taking a right onto Mercer with a green light. He had been sitting facing east on Mercer at the red light and for some odd reason thought the light turned green and decided to start driving through the intersection and right into the side of my car.

After getting out and everything he was convinced and kept saying he had a green light while I, my passengers, all the witnesses, and even the cop that showed up kept telling him NO YOU DIDNT!! Was very frustrating to say the least.

Sooo wish my car was totaled so I could just get a check, but I'm guessing it won't be? Which means I'll get my car back with a rebuilt title and itll be worth like 10k less than what I just bought it for right?? If anyone knows more details of this process and any tips for the best way to handle this I'd greatly appreciate it. I'll add more pics later today.

-Kevin

Hey, welcome to the forum Kevin!

Sorry about the accident - that is one of me worst intersections in the town! I don't think it could be totaled, just make sure you take it to the most reputable shop for the repair.

Wow that is crazy and wild, sorry to hear about the accident and hopefully everything works out. I thought insurance companies can give you money for depreciation of the car?

The probability that you get into an accident is slim. Factor in the fact it is another BMW, the chances are even slimmer. In addition, the fact that is a 3 series, the chances are even slimmer. Moreover, the fact that it was a 335i, nearly improbably. Lastly, the same color as you???? Inconceivable.

Sir, you are one lucky man. You should go buy the lotto

Door damage, rear quarter, and side skirt? I'd be surprised if you notice any difference in a years time.

Be happy everyone walked away. Your car will be like new. And are you really concerned about the resale of a 5 year old car you just bought? Drive it a bit- you won't want to get rid of it for anything less than an M or something similar.

You think that is totaled and will get a rebuilt title?

That is about 10K in damage. Take it to Haury's in Lake City, they'll take care of it.

Ok yeah I was thinking of haurys I took my e36 there once and they did great work. I guess I just wasn't sure what it took to change a car's title over to rebuilt? So it'll still be clean just have an accident on the record? That's a relief haha

Any other suggestions of shops to take it to? Or no need cuz haurys is the best?

If you didn't call the police, it won't be reported on Carfax, but if you did it will show an accident.

A rebuilt title is when a car is totaled, bought by someone and when they ask for the title, it gets branded rebuilt/salvaged.

+1. It'll get fixed properly there, with OEM parts. They fixed my E46 ZHP (pics) with similar damage (sideswipe, no airbags) and it was about 13K. They helped tremendously with the insurance issues, too.

The accident will show on Carfax, which means you'll take a hit come time to trade or sell. However, this is where diminished value comes in. See here for more: http://hauryscollision.com/our-services/consulting/

My diminished value claim was about 4K, which made up for the loss of value (and then some) when I sold my E46 ZHP.

POS compared to the e92 (obviously) but better than the chevy aveo or something I thought I was gonna get!

I've been in a few accidents (more than I care to count, all from others misdriving), and let me tell you that your car is far from totaled and a car is only branded rebuilt only if its been totaled before and repaired/ inspected.

It does suck that the accident happened to your new car but at least nobody was seriously injured. And as for the guy that kept trying to buy his way out of the shitty situation by saying he wasn't at fault it kind of a douche move. Of course, all of our insurance companies say to deny any fault at the time of the accident.

If you are seriously concerned about the depreciation value of your car, I would suggest you look into an attorney to start up a diminished value claim (basically would be suing the driver/ drivers insurance company to compensate you for the loss value of your vehicle if you were to sell it down the road).

In the end, I'm sure you'll be covered for all the repairs (based on your story of him running a red/ yellow). Find a reputable shop to get your repairs done and call it good, you wont even be able to notice it. If the sideskirt was damaged, I would recommend upgrading to some mtech or m3 side skirts .

sigh... don't take it to haurys... Yes they specialize in BMW's but they can't seem to get the small details right.. I've taken my previous e90 there twice and I wasn't 100% satisfied with their work, but than again I'm really picky with my shit.

Autocheck/ carfax will show that it was in an accident/ fender bender but the title of the car will still be clean..

Actually, I take my previous comment back.. Now that I think about it, Jeff Butler (owner of Haury's) specializes in diminished value claims as well. So it might be easier for you if you go that route.. That is the ONLY reason why I am recommending them. I do think Jeff is a great guy and his shot is top notch, he's VERY aggressive with insurance companies and will get what he want, he also has an eye of a hawk when it comes to small details. He just needs to be the one inspecting every vehicle that comes out of the paint booth/ repairs once its finished.. Maybe then, they'll get all the small details right.

Honestly, I've seen the work done from other shops, and Haury's is still a lot better. Only other body shop I would go to is Hinshaw's Auto Body in Auburn.

Never had any experience with Hinshaw's but I'm not specifically saying Haury's is horrible, just that I personally wouldn't take my car back there. But considerings OP's situation, I would make the exception- like I said, Jeff is a tough SOB with the insurance and you'll have the best chance with your diminished value claim with him.

I can actually vouch for a few other shops. Queen City Auto Rebuild, RNR, and recently Collision Specialist in Auburn; had my msport rear and my csl trunk painted there, top notch paint match on par with all of the other ones mentioned above.

Needless to say, every shop is going to have its flaws, in the end it's a matter of finding a shop that works for you.

Sorry to hear about your accident, that is a rough intersection for some reason.

I have not yet had experience with Haury's, but had a hit and run in a parking lot on my e30 M3 a couple months ago and took it up there to get an estimate. Jeff Butler was my instructor last summer for the BMW CCA Car Control Clinic at Pacific Raceways, and is also involved in a lot of other BMW CCA activities. He happened to have just stopped by the shop while I was there so I had a chance to talk to him for a while as well, and must say he is a top notch guy. If you do take it Haury's and for some reason are not completely satisfied just be sure to let Jeff know, because I know he wants his business to be the best, and that can only happen if people nit-pick the small details.

+1 everything this guy said. I do believe he also gives BMW CCA members a slight discount. I just never had the time and or patiences to go back and get the small details fixed.
