Intake manifold hell!!!!
I'm hoping someone can give me a little insight on how to proceed. I am about to clean my intakes and change my oil housing gasket. Everything was going along fine until I came to the part about removing the electrical box on the back end of the intake manifold. This thing is about to make me lob a hand grenade under the hood and push her into the street!!! Anyone know a secret to getting this evil little box off of the back of the intake manifold sometime before I'm 50!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

if you slide the electrical box toward the front bumper I believe it will slide out. you need to slip a metal tab off of a rubber grommet/hanger. If the front doesn't work try another direction, one will work. I did this two years ago and I'm on my mobile right now so I'm sorry I can't be more helpful. best of luck. |

You need to put your eyes on the tab that the black box attached to. Once you see how it works, you will understand what is holding it on, and undoing it is just a matter of fiddling with it the right way.

I know exactly what part you're referring to, and I had the same fight you are having when I replaced my low pressure fuel sensor.
First, if you haven't already done so, get a damp paper towel or rag and wipe the box clean. After you do that you will see that the black box has two rectangular "loops" through which it is attached to the bracket under the manifold. The two "prongs" that come out from the bracket and go through these loops are metal. There is a raised section on each which prevents the black box from sliding off easily. I used a screwdriver and pried up on the black loops on the box while pulling one end at a time. Doing this I was able to get that thing off. I would recommend stepping back, eating something, and coming back with renewed patience. I know I was ready to burn the M-Fer down.

I couldn't get mine off either. The first time, I just unscrewed all the torx bolts and it took quite a while. This last time, I opened the electrical box and left the top half connected to the manifold and removed it that way. I'll probably fiddle with it some off the car so that next time I can slide it off the clips like it's suposed to work. Good luck and just be patient...it'll come off.

FWIW...
I sprayed the metal tabs/plastic loops with liquid wrench, then (gently) pryed towards the driver side with a small prybar. Be gentle, and buffer anything you're pressing against. Box slid off easily after getting the plastic hoops past the "bump" on the metal tabs -- depending on how stuck it is, you might be able to do it with bare hands.

I removed the 3 screws, took awhile but it worked. The middle long screw was slow going, but I never replaced it when I put it back together, as some others have also done.

I just did the same job on my car. What I did was slip a flat head screw driver in between the metal tab and the plastic loop that the tab slides into. Working one tab at a time (with a lot of patience) I was able to slide the box so the loop made it over the tab just slightly. One side at a time. I roughed up the plastic loops a little bit but nothing too bad. Before I re-installed the electrical box I used a vise to flatten the metal tabs by squishing the little hump down for easy removal next time. Patience is key here, it was a major PITA.
Here is a thread on taking the intake mani off http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=654820 Slide a small flat head where the yellow arrow is at in the pic.

Thanks for the insights. I actually started on valves 1 & 2 to calm down and feel like I am getting something done. I just moved the intake over a bit. I'll try the pb blaster route tomorrow along with the screwdriver. Hopefully both methods together will yeild some results. I'll let you know how it goes.

2 small flat head screw drivers stuff one on each side and pull the box out don't make it any more difficult than it is . a little muscle to get screw drivers in but that's it .

Remember seeing someone create a tool from a screw driver to remove the wiring box.
EDIT: Found it. Post #7 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=763958 Quote:

As mentioned in previous posts, there are two tabs.
What i did was i placed a flat tip screwdriver on the tab and hit it with a mallet. Rubber piece will slide off. I find that's the easiest solution, and the quickest. |
