Ok so I tried to do this update but so far no dice! The car doesn't seem to see
the USB key. At first I thought that maybe the key itself wasn't formatted
correctly. So I reformatted it to MSDos(FAT) and again copied the files from
the torrent download to it. I followed the rest of the instructions; insert key
into glovebox, start car, but after the navi boots nothing happens ~ no FSC
message.

Am I doing something wrong?

My car: 09 E91, build date July/09.

I'm stumped.

First plan of action: find a PC machine and reformat the key again to FAT32.
Disk Utility in OSX formats to MSDos(FAT), maybe there is a variation and
that's the problem...

I'll report back..

It must be FAT32, no other file systems are recognized.

Thanks Babyblue.

Well, still no go.. Here is my experience step by step:

1. I reformatted the key to FAT32 and copied over the files from the download. (config.nfm + pkgdb folder)
2. Plugged key into glovebox usb slot. The LED on the usb key flashes for about 5 seconds and then stops ~ I guess it's getting power or trying to read.
3. Turned car to accessory mode. (start, start)
4. Idrive fired up and I got the nav disclaimer, 10 secs later it loaded up.

..And that's it, no FSC code prompt....So the only thing I can think of is:

1. USB drive I bought is crap.
2. Currently the car has the original maps from 2009 and won't take an update jump to 2013?

...Kinda bummed ..haha..If anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears!

How long did you wait? It was at least a good minute or two maybe more before the prompt came up for me.

Its a trip to the dealer for you,the firmware of your cic unit is probably to old and is not playing nice with your new maps or you may have to start with 2010 then 2011,2012 and finally 2013 try an older map and see if it will take,if not then the dealer it is.

3D *maps* work everywhere (terrain). 3D *skyline* views (buildings) only work in certain major cities. This update is maps only, so there are no additional features, including red light cameras or speed traps.

It sounds like you're doing all the right steps.

This could be it. The prompt to start the navigation update does take a bit after iDrive is fully booted. You might not be waiting long enough. Alternately, you can try starting the car first, waiting until everything is fully up and running for a bit, and *then* insert the USB drive. It's still not instantaneous though. Make sure you wait a full minute before declaring a failure.

im in the same boat at the moment. I copied everything over from my mac, plugged it into the glovebox USB and nothing happened at all.

Going to transfer the files to a pc, reformat the drive on the pc and copy them over again. See how that works out.

Yeah, everything I tried I get the same result. I'm now thinking it has
everything to do with the fact that I torrented onto a Mac, and transfered
the files from the Mac onto the FAT32 key.. Next attempt will be to put the
torrented files onto a PC, reformat the key again on the PC and then transfer
them back on. I bet something happens to the files (especially the .nfm) on
OSX and makes them unexecutable when plugging into the CIC usb port..

The saga continues! It's a bit frustrating, but kind of fun too!

Im trying that now. already dumped the files onto a pc from my flashdrive, i reformatted the drive and now im copying over to it again. if that doesnt work, ill copy to the flash drive directly from my nas via a pc instead of my mac.

I downloaded on a mac, copied to a 64GB drive on my mac, formatted by a mac to fat32, no issues at all, I don't think that is your problem here, if you haven't already try another flash drive, i've heard that it can be a bit fussy

**Also be sure to strip out any proprietary product on the flash itself, if it has any encryption tools etc.., a Mac or any other OS will not arbitrarily change a file while transferring, or downloading, it is simply carrying out instruction to copy to your HD then to transfer it

Hey, did you copy the two files:
config.nfm
pkgdb (folder)

Directly into the root of the USB?

They have to be copied that way, otherwise it wont ready it. Those two files cannot be inside a folder, just in the root...

Hi Guys, I updated the maps with an FSC code form Sergej and and USB drive (data downloaded from a torrent provided by Sergej also), everything went well but now, every time i start the car (iDrive in Navi screen) i get this message:

"Error!
Address not in navigation data"

They i press ok and everything works just fine... But it is very annoying to the this message there every time.

Has anybody experience this? I don't know what must be going on...

Thx
