forget to introduce myself :D

I am a automotive engineering student in Loughborough Uni, came to UK in September 2011,

I found used cars are so cheap in the UK so I managed to get something like a 350Z or Evo here, cuz I like those 280BHP monsters.

but after I get here, I been told that if you don't insure the car before you take it on the road, then you r in trouble, so I think, well, how expensive the insurance could be! just buy it then.

BUT after I get a quote on the internet, I just get fcked, 20000 GBP, to insurance the EVO. and 80000 GBP to insurance the R34 GTR. WTF, because in my country, all the cars are around 500 GBP a year.

THEN I did some research, then I know what the boy racer is and something like young ppl drive fast and irresponsible, so they need to pay more for they insurance, I just wanna say this is TOTALLY UNFAIR FOR EVERYONE, FOR ME.

I think drive fast on the public road is just meaning less and I only do something crazy on the track day but I still need to pay 3800 GBP for the 335i(I didn't know something like N54, twin turbo, M3 killer, the reason I bought the 335i because when I quote the insurance, the price are all the same for all the 3 series except the M3 which was 20000GBP a year for me, so I picked up the 335i cuz I need a fast car to enjoy the speed)

Here is the pic of my baby now

It is might be the cheapest car to insure at that moment, 2800GBP a year

looks pretty. drives fine

BUT WHY THE FUCK I HAVE GOT 35 MPG WITH A HYBRID

Before I bought the 335i, I have no idea how the mileage gonna affect the car, my idea was. the car over 30000 mile is too old, so I bought that 60 plate HONDA, but after I sit into my friend's E46 325Ci, I found I was completely wrong, the feeling of the entire car just much much better compare to my CR-Z. the CR-Z just feels like a JAZZ....
So
say good bye my CR-Z
Those pic were took at the dealer, I took the part ex for the 335i

Fair enough. wherever you're from, if you don't like the rules here then just go back.

You contradict yourself from the beginning, you don't like to drive fast in public road but you do have the feeling that you need a 280+ fast car, i really don't know how you will use it /feel it without breaking the speed limit in the public, of course you wanted it to go around the tracks but 99% of your time I'm sure you are not in the track.

Insurance cost a lot here, i assume you're 21 or 22 at the most, well what can i say , enjoy your stay and careful driving.

Don't be that serious mate, 335i has tons of torque which same as M3, u can feel thay just by shoot out from the roundabout without break the speedlimit and think about some ppl who bought super cars, are they meant to doing over 150mph everyday to display their horsepower? LOL
AND the 280PS is kinda of regulation in Japan, is not just the power, it is more like a spirit, lots of famous JDM performance cars are all limited to 280PS

Nice car!!

You sound half sensible, but the insurance costs are there to stop 99% of young drivers from killing themselves or someone else by getting a stupidly powerful car....when I was your age I thought it was unfair too, but now that am 10years older I can understand why young drivers are charged so much. I know I certainly didn't have the maturity or experience to drive something like a 335i at 21-22, I can guarantee 100% I would have crashed it.

Anyway as I said nice car!! Just don't go around annoying the JDM crowd too much...the interior of the BMW is much nicer than any Honda/Nissan but Jap cars are still much more reliable

Nice car and good to see that somebody tried plastic dip in the UK.

Welcome to the UK and I hope you follow the rule as we all do if go abroad.

I guess you have already upgraded your rear lights to LCI, as in some photos they are pre-LCI but in others they are LCI.

Impressions was that students are poor which makes me laugh as now a days, they all drive crazy car.

What is on future mod list?

check it out bro, I was chasing a SLS AMG on the silverstone
and
yeah, I really thought about the everyday driving and the building quality of the car, so I choose Germans cuz CR-Z really gave me some bad feeling about japanese car (sqreezing dash board, uncomfortable seat, unstable on the motorway etc)so I won't choose a FN2 TYPE-R,(and their handing crap too)
I bought a 335i and this car keep suprising me, I can always spot something on this car which makes me feel this is TOO worth the money that I paid.

Interesting thread, makes a change. Insurance is mental in this country as you've come to learn, for many reasons

If you got the cash take it to Birds BMW near Heathrow, get their B3 suspension kit fitted, with LSD, and up the power....after that lot you wouldn't want a M3 !!...Though your insurance costs will probably go up

Sadly insurance is what it is (an unfathomable questionnaire which stereotypes groups of individuals using the power of risk assessment)

Welcome and nice car, fair play to a student with a 335!

I'm not being serious. I assume you're Chinese/asian s ince i saw a photo yo have a Chinese/asain friends. I only graduated 2 years ago and i've been where you are and done that. i witness a lot of idiots with fast car and even so i wouldn't say i don't drive fast myself. Prices in HK or china for cars has over 115% import duty so a 20k car here you will be looking at 40k over there, but the insurance here is only crazy if you're very young and buying powerful cars. It is to stop people on the road and to tell people if you crash or make a claim you will be so fuck you won't even be able to afford insurance.

I live here so i put up with the rules however i don't like it

My friend during uni wrote of a Nissan 60K GTR during our graduation trip around the EU! LOL

Hmm, yes I am a Chinese but you cannot just judge ppl by where they from, I can understand why you think me like that, I know lot of rich Chinese boys get good cars and just ram them on the street but I am not that kinda of idiot and I am not rich at all, I bought this 7 year old 335i for 10k and I choose to live outside the campus to save the money and rent a house with my friend, it could save me 3-4k a year and I don't need to take a train anymore.
normally I only do 70mph on motorway or A road, well that sounds boring but if I am doing 80-90mph that's gonna cost more fuel compare to 70

to proof my skill?
here is the video

http://static.youku.com/v1.0.0324/v/...%3D%26type%3D0

there is a rich arab drive his SLS AMG at 3min

PS:there is no import tax for HK, for HK student, they can just ship their car back to HK and keep driving it

Well i am from hong kong too, so i think i know the rules of imports but not the student bit. Drive safely and enjoy the car, meanwhile don't contradict youself and get into an accident.

Have your friends told you that when you go on track your insurance become invalid and if you damage any bits
Of the track it comes out of your own pocket? Worse if u crash into other peoples car you are liable.
