got beat by an evo...
now before we start, i'd just like to say i'm really not the racey type, i don't go thrashing around the streets and certainly don't take risks when there is traffic / blind corners etc...
but i do like to floor the thing when its safe to do so right now we've got that out the way, was at some lights earlier today (lights on a national limit road... u gotta love that) - and an evo 7 or 8 pulled next to me, we both floored it (DS mode) and although it wasn't a whitewash i got pretty skanked up to a ton then i backed off and he kept going (just not the kinda guy for 100+ racing scenarios) - those things are fast! i though my car was fast but this is the first time i've really gone up against anything (had a few "looks" in the first few weeks of ownership but i was running the engine in so i curbed the enthusiasm), and i got beat i genuinly thought i would have had him, but thinking about it them things are fast at stock and most are tuned to the hilt so it ain't that bad i guess... would be nice if i could meet him again once i've dun the remap |

I got annihilated by an SL55 AMG a couple of days ago. Forced induction diesel is quick, but when up against a forced induction petrol engined car, BIG horsepower and BIG torque will reign supreme over BIG horsepower and BIG torque, in a straight line. |

I don't think something exists like a stock evo? Most of them all boost approx. 400hp. I taught I read somewhere ... the 0-1000m sprint is a bit faster for the 335d then the stock evo 9.

To give you an idea a DMS 535 D is as fast as a PPP standard Impreza Turbo in a straight line. A PPP Impreza has roughly the same bhp/lb as a standard Sti version around 280bhp, mind you its hard staying with them on the bends but that another story.
Buy yourself an Ariel Atom for the weekends/track and you will then leave the Evo/Scooby behind Thats what ive done |

I think as has been mentioned above, you have no idea what is actually under the bonnet, so you'll never know if you could realistically beat it!

Never underestimate the EVO's - they are going to beat you off the line every time and generally 0-60's are better than a 535d (or a 535i for that matter) all the way back to a stock EVO XII. It's nice that your luxury diesel can mix it up with something as hardcore as an EVO though he's going to be a lot less happy on the motorway as well. Plus he has to have it serviced 4 times a year |

And even then, you'd better hope it's not raining or not too twisty....

I think (from memory) the EVO FQ400 hits 60 in about 3.5 secs (faster than a porsche 911 turbo).
An Enzo would even have problems with one of these monsters!!! So ZiM, dont feel too put-down by getting your ass kicked. I think our chipped 335d's should hold-up well against Scooby's but not much chance against the insane Evo's. Ahh-well - you cant have it all - LOL

And besides, your car looks classy and his looks like an 80s chavmobile (no offence to any Evo owners!)

I'd go the Atom route any day. Any car that can do this to Clarksons face is tops in my book:

Not very "wolf in sheeps clothing" though is it? It looks like it should go quick and people who know cars would know that it goes quick and it doesn't look particularly sexy. I would like the ultimate stealth car A car that looks good, but not too flashy, and that most people would think will be slow but isn't.

Im just going into Atom ownership but this has to be one of the most fun cars on the road and thats including my previous 997 GT3.
I was taken out for a spin in an Atom and we stopped for fuel , straight away someone came up talking about it. Driving down a road people stop , wave , take photo's with their cameras. I did try Caterham but there is something really really special about these Atom's. Another benefit is virtually zero depreciation , tyres cost £60/65 each and last around 15,000 ( depending on use ) and you can get classic car insurance so its around £400 for me and thats not using my no claims on the vehicle. I have to say im not brave enough or skillful enough for the 300bhp version and ive gone for the 160bhp version with the intention of ordering a 300bhp for next year. That 160 is about the same speed as a 997s but as your so low it feels so much faster , and when you get to the corners you're in another league. |
