Need advice on how to upgrade sound

I just dont know where to start. Im not looking for any massive setup, im just looking to improve volume and clarity by a good bit. I have the basic speakers, and i dont want to spend more than 300-350 on the whole thing.

any suggestions of what i specifically need to do? My current plan is to change my speakers to 4 celestion mid ranged speakers... will that be enough?

first thing that will make the most difference is an amp
will improve the quality of sounds from the OEM speakers a lot
next is to change the factory tweeters for any aftermarket tweeter
the OEM tweeters suck!
after doing that see if you are still interested in changing the speakers or not
i did the same upgrade, got a used 50x4, 200x1 amp for $200 and swapped my OEM tweeters
and it sounds much better
after that i bought a set of logic 7 speakers, simply because they can handle more power
but if you stick to 50w RMS the oem speakers are fine
its a pain in the ass to change them
you have to deal with taking the door trim off and any rattles that might come up

You can do a lot but it may run a bit over 300-350. Each Celestion will run you at least $50. And a decent amp will run you at least $200.

I haven't bought them yet, so I'm unable to provide great input, but the BSW speakers seem to have gotten good reviews on BMW forums.

Get four Alpine Type-R speakers -- ~$250
Get Rockford Fosgate 4004 amplifier -- ~250
http://www.amazon.com/Rockford-Fosga.../dp/B0007WQACS
plus cables.
and you will have awesome sound.
