As usual - THANK YOU! Appreciate this thread and sending the bulletin to my sales guy. Hoping for delivery this week - with any luck this should pre-empt the trouble you guys endured...

If anyone has an extra 6FL cable or doesn't need it, please PM me as we Canadians don't automagically get the cable. Thanks.

I doubt anyone will get an 'extra' (well besides me). how much is it from your parts counter?

I still wonder how they pull that in CA. isn't it called an 'ipod' option?

and zep; the CA should certainly have it in the car when they deliver it, but you have to remember that not all CA's are extremely technologically savvy and it's one of those things that a 'veteran' salesman that's been doing it for 20+ years may just ignore when they get bulletins and stuff. it doesn't mean they aren't good people or good CA's to have, but not every CA is an enthusiast.

I have one in my desk that we're going to use to demonstrate the option in all the cars, but if my first customer car with the option shows up this week and there aren't any in parts I'll be using that cable just because. that girl is psyched about the ipod adapter and I'm not going to mess that up for her like has happened to a few early adopters here

hell, I even keep my nano at work now just so I have something to demonstrate to people :P

sounds fantastic. it turns the audio into a line out which is directly connected to the aux input.. so no loss or distortion. I noticed no difference between listening with the cable and listening with the ipod synch cable, which is essentially making it fully-digital and using the radio to decode the mp3

I don't exactly know yet. I still have a 3rd Gen iPod. Though I get a discount on Apple stuff, so I may buy a new one soon.

Does this mean that we in Canada are not supplied this cable? I will be taking delivery of my 328i this week and the salesmen kept telling me that it has an ipod adapter kit blah blah... Will i have to pay extra for this cable? I don't have an ipod but maybe this will be a reason to buy one since I didn't opt for the 6disc changer...

Yeah, I totally understand that. My CA is a veteran BMW CA and he was clueless. It is the responsibility of BMWNA to make this known and train the dealerships on how to pre-order the component for their customers... oh, and not putting a FREEZE on them might help too.

From what I understand, unless you have placed an order for her - you'll be giving her your cable. Just to show you what a prick I am... if that were me - I'd say "this one will do until mine comes in". I expect mine to be new in the packaging.

Very poor planning, very poor execution, or both.
The X5 option has given me 0 problems. This is also because I order the parts as soon as I get the vim number. I then put the parts aside and put them in the car when it arrives at the dealership before PDI so we can make sure they work right. We have DVD's in the office waiting to be tested out and also to show people on a car in stock how it works. BMW sends out bulletins via center net that explains all of this to the CA, SA, parts department and all managers. We have a meeting every Saturday morning to discuss issues like this so we dont have any problems when the cars come in.

like alpine said, it's not a problem if you handle it proactively (as a CA). I put an order in for 5 of them for my own stock (ie my paying out of pocket) and I also ordered one for each VIN I have on order. somehow my buddy in parts got me my cable before anyone else, I don't have any question as to whether there will be more waiting for me tomorrow or tuesday at the latest.

Yes, you'll need to order it and pay, if you need it. But you are getting the 6FL option for less than the Americans as they have put the price of the cable in the option price there.

The cable is about $50 US. Considering that you pay the equivalent of $305 US for 6FL without cable and we pay $400 for the same thing with cable, you're making out like a bandit. You'll get no sympathy from me unless they charge you over $120 CDN.

wow i am glad to see that Audi is not the only idiot that is doing this. When you get the $290.00 option on A6/A8/Q7 you are supposed to get the cable with it, however it does not come in the car, instead the parts dept. is supposed to have one on hand for every car that comes in with the option. i heard some Audi dealers were charging around $50.00 for it as well.
